Background

Assists the Finance Associate to ensure fluent and efficient running of the Admin/Finance Section. Assist in administratively supporting programme delivery in the country operation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of Associate Admin/Finance Officer, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Assists in maintenance of financial records and monitoring systems to record and reconcile expenditures, balances, payments, statements and other data for day-to-day transactions and reports;
  • Prepares recurring reports as scheduled and special reports as required for budget preparation, audits or other reasons;
  • Prepares detailed costs estimates and participates in budget analysis and projections as required;
  • Assists in processing of entitlements, issuance of contracts and maintenance of personnel records/files;
  • Prepares correspondence and reports on general administrative and financial tasks as required;
  • Assists in the preparation of office budgets applicable to staff, servicing costs and maintains budgetary control records;
  • Assists in requisitions of office supplies and equipment for control, distribution and maintenance of appropriate inventory records;
  • Performs other duties as required;

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: 

  • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD);
  • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
  • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
  • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases,etc;
  • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
  • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Office Management, Human Resources or other related fields

Experience:

  • At least 3 years or more of relevant work experience related to function;
  • Experience in the usage of computers (Microsoft Office);
  • Knowledge of MSRP (Peoplesoft or related ERP system).

Language:

  • Fluency in English and the national language of the duty station is mandatory.
