Background
Under the guidance and supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer (Head of PI/Reporting Unit), the Translator works closely together with the United Nation’s Resident Coordinator’s Office, UNDP, other UN Agencies, humanitarian partners and national authorities to ensure an efficient flow of information from the OCHA Ukraine’s office through the provision of oral and written translation services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide high – quality written translations from Russian/English into English /Russian of different documents, including media sources, letters, reports, legislation etc;
- Interpret during the meetings from Russian/English into English/Russian;
- Occasionally perform other duties as required by the supervisor.
Impact of Results
The key results have an impact on the efficiency of the OCHA office. Accurate analysis and presentation of information strengthens the capacity of the OCHA office and promotes the image of the UN as an effective contributor to the development of the country. Incumbent’s own initiative is decisive in results of work and timely finalization.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Secondary Education. Undergraduate university degree in Philology, Linguistics or other related field is desired but is not a requirement.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of working experience as a translator in international organizations, the UN agencies and/or INGOs.
- Experience in providing interpretation for national and international events;
- Experience in translating texts is required as well as the ability to demonstrate a strong ability to translate specialized texts under deadline pressure;
- Good experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc).

Proficiency in English, Ukrainian and Russian
