Background

The Project Coordinator will play a supporting role in all aspects of project delivery, strategic planning, resource mobilization and provision of technical assistance ensuring effective implementation of the Ending Gender Based Violence Project (E-GBV project) to reach planned targets and expected results with good quality and in a timely manner. He/She coordinates the day-to-day management of project activities.

The Project Coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the E-GBV Team Leader and Advisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summary of key functions:

  • Strategic project planning, coordination and implementation;
  • Coordinator of project delivery.

Ensure Strategic planning, coordination and implementation of projects focusing on achievement of the following results in consultation with the E-GBV Team Leader and Advisor:

  • Prepare annual work plans, establish priorities, timelines, targets and standards for monitoring results;
  • Coordinate various components of the project and constantly seek to improve project service lifecycle;
  • Work in close collaboration with other teams in the office including projects, programmes, operations as well as other UN agencies, Government officials, multilateral and bi-lateral donors and civil society in ensuring successful project implementatio; and
  • Coordinate and monitor the capacity development plan of staff working on the project.

Ensure timely and effective  coordination of project delivery focusing on achievement, under guidance of the E-GBV Team Leader and Advisor,  of the following results:

  • Provide guidance to the project support staff and facilitate day-to-day functioning of the Team for achieving results in line with outputs outlined in the project document;
  • Provide proper oversight for project activities and results;
  • Is in charge of the financial management elements of the project including use of Altas to monitor the project budget and raise requisitions;
  • Facilitate approval of payments under written delegated authority from the GBV Team Leader;
  • Coordinate and guide the project team and ensure that the activities of the project staff are in line with the project plan and budget;
  • Provide support to consultants attached to the project;
  • Prepare timely and regular progress reports for submission to GBV Team Leader, CO management and external stakeholders;
  • Assist with preparation for audit and other related requirements;
  • Ensure security of the staff and assets belonging to the projects;
  • Ensure inclusion of lessons learnt and best practices to improve quality of future projects.

Perform any other responsibilities that could be delegated to him/her by the supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master degree in social sciences, development, political sciences, management or other relevant science.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience in management and/or coordination of projects in challenging environments;
  • Experience in coordinating and implementing projects.

Language:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
