The Human Resources internship position will be based in the Human Resources (HR) Center. The UN Women’s HR Center, under the supervision of the Executive Directors Office, provides strategic guidance and high quality support and services to employees in partnership with managers to ensure a productive and pleasant work environment. Aligned with HR best practices in the UN common system and the International Civil Service Commission’s Framework for Human Resource Management UN Women is guided by modern, efficient and user-friendly policies and procedures. The HR team in New York manages and oversees all HR functions for the UN Women global workforce. This includes workplace relations, recruitment and staffing, talent management, contract management and benefits and entitlements as well as workforce planning and HR policy guidance.

The Human Resources intern will be part of the HR Planning, Policy and Organizational Design team, and will be supervised by the HR Specialist - Planning, Policy and Organizational Design. The Human Resources Intern supports the Human Resources team in the development and successful implementation of core operational HR functions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare HR reports and statistics of high standard:

  • Compile HR data and information and support the analysis of data;
  • In coordination with the HR team, explore innovative ways to improve existing reporting tools and templates.

Provide support to the development and implementation of outreach and communication activities:

  • Create and maintain UN-Women’s HR-related social media pages;
  • Provide support to the re-design of HR’s presence on UN Women’s intranet, including writing contents and developing a branding style;
  • Provide inputs to UN Women’s HR Bulletin.

Provide support to on-going HR projects:

  • Support the development of generic job profiles;
  • Providing support to other on-going human resources projects.

At the end of the assignment the Human Resources Intern will be able to:

  • Build organizational social media presence for targeted groups;
  • Create informative and visually compelling content to corporate Intranet pages;
  • Produce well-constructed reports and statistics that support organizational decision-making;
  • Support organizational development through HR projects;
  • Provide standard policy advice on HR-related matters in the UN context.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • The intern must have studies in Human Resources, Social Sciences or other similar subject at the university level;
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language a distinct advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and experience of SharePoint is preferred, but not required for this position.

UN Women Internship Conditions:

Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree (as (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year.

UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship.

All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern.

UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship.

The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.

Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship.
