UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Communications Unit supports all projects and programmes implemented by the Mozambique Country Office including Women’s Economic Empowerment and Violence against Women. The Unit also is responsible for formulating and implementing communications and advocacy strategies including communications and visibility plans.  Additionally, the Communications Unit work also includes developing various communications materials including brochures, press releases.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision and guidance of the Communications Officer and overall supervision of the Deputy Representative, the intern will assist in various tasks.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of any events that may take place during the internship duration;
  • Support in writing and editing communications materials;
  • Translate communications materials when necessary;
  • Assist in developing newsletters;
  • Support in the development of audio-visual materials;
  • When required, attend meetings and conferences in Maputo and the Provinces to write stories, reports and minutes of meetings;
  • Help with the content development of UN Women Mozambique social media;
  • Update the communication database;
  • Update the communications filing system;

Any other related tasks to support the Communications unit.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • The intern must have studies in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design or other similar subject at the university level;
  • Must be enrolled in a degree programme (Masters or equivalent) in a graduate school at time of application and during the internship.

Experience:

  • Experience with Photoshop, InDesign, MS Office will be an asset.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and Portuguese are required;

UN-Women Internship Conditions:

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UN Women;
  • UN WOMEN will not pay for the internship; all the expenses connected with it will be borne by the intern;
  • UN WOMEN accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship; The Intern must provide proof of enrolment in a health insurance plan;
  • The Intern will not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of my internship or for the six months immediately following the expiration date thereof;
  • The Intern will be personally responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed
