Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Office of the Resident Coordinator/UN Coordination Specialist, the UN Coordination Associate provides assistance to the execution of services in the Resident Coordinator’s Office by managing data and providing support to the implementation of relevant activities. The UN Coordination Associate works in close collaboration with the operations, programme, project and knowledge management teams of the UN agencies staff to perform these functions.

 

The UN Coordination Associate can supervise clerical and support staff. The UN Coordination Associate works in close collaboration with the operation, programme and project teams of the UN Agencies and UNDOCO staff for resolving complex UN programme-related issues and exchange of information.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.Ensures effective support in preparation and implementation of country programming processes and products and services, including CCA and UNDCS focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Collection and presentation of background information for preparation of CCA, UNDCS and related documents.
  • Design and maintenance of various databases on CCA, UNDCS, MDGs, post-2015 Development Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Assist in analyzing and preparing policy documents and concept papers.
  • Provision of assistance to inter-agency working groups and committees.
  • Recording inter-agency meetings and repositing documentation, reports.

2. Supports preparation and implementation of the RC Work Plan focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Collecting and preparation of inputs for the RC Work Plan and reports.
  • Administrative and logistical support for UNCT Retreats and other UNCT meetings.
  • Proper control of the supporting documents for payment from the Support to the Resident Coordination (SRC) fund and other funds for UNCT activities. Timely reporting on UNCT Retreats and Meetings and repositing the reports and documents.
  • Review of the RC funds expenditures and reporting to the direct supervisor. Preparation of required budget revisions drafts.

3. Provides support to effective advocacy of UN activities, in close consultation with UNIC and the information/communication focal points of the UN system, focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Maintenance of information on RC system activities.
  • Contribute to the updating and maintenance of the UN website.
  • Preparation of public information materials as requested.

4. Provides support to the implementation  of the resource mobilization strategy focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Collection and presentation of information on donors, and maintenance of donors’ databases.
  • Track and reporting on mobilized resources for UNDAF implementation.
  • Maintenance of database of agencies with field representation
  • Provision on technical and logistical advice/ support to mission of agencies without field representation.

5.Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Synthesis of best practices and lessons learnt on coordination
  • Sound contributions to knowledge networks including the UN Knowledge Management System and communities of practice.
  • Organization of trainings to UN staff on coordination, administration and protocol issues.

The key results have an impact on the overall UN programmes efficiency and the efficiency in delivering all aspects of the functions of the RC Office.  Accurate analysis and presentation of information strengthens the capacity of the RC Office and promotes the image of the UN as an effective contributor to the development of the Country.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

A first level University Degree or equivalent in Economics, International Relations, Development, Political Sciences, Management/Business Administration.

Master Degree will be an asset.

Experience:

6 years of progressively responsible administrative or programme experience is required at the national or international level. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web based management systems. Experience in coordination specifically in the UN system is an asset.

Language Requirements:

Excellent communication, writing and editorial skills in English and Turkish.

Knowledge of French language would be an asset.
