Background

Under the direct supervision and guidance of Eugenia Jenny Dalalaki and Leia Grossman, Human Resources Learning team, the intern will assist the HR Learning team with streamlining work processes related to the learning and career development of the UN Women Internship Community. A work plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon and feedback will be provided both in real time as well as a summary of work accomplished at the end of the internship.

Duties and Responsibilities

HR Learning Intern support:

  • Co-manage UN Women network of interns from onboarding to exit.

Specifically:

  • Manage orientation of new interns;
  • Welcome Interns by sending intern-specific Welcome Note, providing orientation and support to new interns to help them become familiar with UN Women and the UN Common System.

Strengthen Intern Talent Management & Workplace Engagement:

  • Plan and organise internal and external social events for interns such as UN inter-agency visits, Intern Appreciation Day, and liaise regularly with interns to ensure any wellness concerns;
  • Maintain Facebook UN Women intern group page, internship program intranet page (with recruitment intern) and any other social media to distribute news, and support the social activities of the intern community;
  • Guide Interns on how to access and use the online Learning Management System for courses related to role and organizational knowledge;
  • Work with Interns to co-develop learning events and support them to become trainers.

Monitor and Review the Development Needs of Interns:

  • Proactively interview interns and supervisors on progress of internship and following up on any requests for support;
  • Schedule and conduct exit interviews and evaluation of internship experience, and summarise findings as best practices to share and ensure quality assurance of programme for future interns and hiring managers.

Support Internship Performance for both Interns and Supervisors:

  • Organize career development workshops, intern bag lunches, language conversation table, work plan days and encourage interns to develop new skills and competencies;
  • Provide guidelines and templates for intern work plans to the intern and hiring manager.

Support Knowledge Management and Partnerships Internally and Externally to UN Women:

  • Maintain up-to-date Intern Database in collaboration with HR recruitment team and hiring units;
  • Develop partnerships with other UN agencies and with University Internship Offices and co-host events related to Intern learning and career development;
  • All positions assist in logistical and operational support of the HR Learning team. Intern may also take on or initiate special projects, as desired.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Strong academic background in education, learning, staff development, human resources, international development or other related field;
  • Final year Master’s degree students preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience in coordination and delivery of training event activities and working in an international environment.
  • Ability to problem solve, work logically, and pay attention to detail; confidence in taking initiatives in identifying improvements and proposing solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with colleagues of different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Suite, experience with SharePoint preferred.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Additional languages, especially UN languages, desired.

  • Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a)    Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); (c) have graduated with a university degree (as (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year.
  • UN Women internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN WOMEN during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment, a scanned copy of his/her passport, two letters of recommendation, and application.
