Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action.  It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

Expected Summary of key functions

Programme Division leads UN Women’s work in the field, in all areas of work, linking programmes with UN women’s normative and advocacy roles, including coordination on gender equality and women’s empowerment, in close collaboration with Policy Division and the Inter-Governmental and Strategic Partnership Bureau. The Division provides strategic guidance and direction for UN Women’s programme development and implementation, and through the “one-stop shop” function, the Division support field offices in all aspects of the programme cycle in the five impact areas of UN Women’s Strategic Plan, both programmatically, operationally and with resource mobilization.

The strategic focus of the Partnership and Business Development analyst will be to corporately support resource mobilization and partnership development to advance Programme Division’s support to field offices to leverage, scale-up and ensure sustainability of UN Women programmes. The work requires knowledge of strategic results-oriented programming, monitoring and evaluation, as well as experience in business process development to support resource mobilization and partnership building, both internally and with donors and strategic partners. Further the work requires experience in administrative tasks including procurement, budgeting and office management.

The Partnerships and Business Development Analyst will report to the Director, Programme Division.

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of functions:

Resource mobilization, partnerships building and donor relations:

  • Support to design and establish a corporate system in support of field offices’ effort to mobilize non-core resource for portfolio growth and scaling-up of programmes;
  • Support the roll-out and coordination of the non-core resource mobilization system, including follow-ups and training to HQ units and field offices, as needed.

Knowledge management and sharing:

  • Support to design and establish key account management system to facilitate cross-leaning between offices on donor’s priorities and strategies to enhance UN Women’s coordination with donors;
  • Develop donor intelligence of key donors relevant to field offices, to enhance positioning of UN Women with donors at regional and country level;
  • Produce content and maintain Programme Division’s online resources, and ensure frequent communication with field offices on resource mobilization opportunities, in liaison with Strategic Partnership Division.

Donor-reporting:

  • Support the development of integrated donor-reporting system to enhance quality assurance and timely reporting to UN Women’s partners;
  • Support training and capacity development related to timely and high quality donor-reporting.

Impact of Results

Effective support provided to the Director of Programme in his/her function to set and implement corporate resource mobilization strategy and systems, in collaboration with the Inter-governmental and Strategic Partnership Bureau  to accelerate UN Women’s programming footprint and field level.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in one of the following disciplines: business administration or management, public administration, economics or other related fields.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in business development, partnerships building and resource mobilization;
  • Experience in handling of web-based management systems;
  • Knowledge of ATLAS.

Languages:

  • Written and oral proficiency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN working language is desirable.

The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women's empowerment.
