Background

For more than 48 years, UNDP Saudi Arabia Country Office has been working closely with the Government of Saudi Arabia assisting the Government in its efforts towards sustainable human development. UNDP has also been the number one development partner to the Saudi government, in response to the nation's development needs.

UNDP’s communications strategy for 2015-2017 is aiming at strengthening corporate visibility and further positioning the organization as a key development player and knowledge leader through producing more visual content.

Under the overall guidance of the Communications Associate, the graphic designer is expected to design layouts for visual content and provide support to the communications unit by performing a variety of standard communication processes ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The graphic designer will assist in building strong relationships with partners and UNDP’s audience by performing multiple tasks and assist in producing communications material.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures effective support, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Developing layout and design of printed UNDP SA material with a main focus on the SDGs based on the content and guidance provided by the Communications Associate;
  • Design visual materials that convey key messages to target audiences in compliance with UNDP branding; including electronic newsletters and infographics, posters, leaflets;
  • Assist in developing a UNDP brochure through designing the layout;
  • Assist in the organization of events/UN days and/or campaigns;
  • Assist in updating website content, Arabic and English, in terms of creating infographics and improving the appearance of UNDP website;
  • Improve and edit art-works, photos, charts and other graphic elements of UNDP reports and publications;
  • Perform other duties as required by the Communications Associate.

  • High level of knowledge of graphic designing;
  • Excellent and artistic skills;
  • Solid and hands-on practical experience on graphic design;
  • High layout skills for infographics, newsletters and brochures.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in one of the following fields: Graphic Design; Fine Arts or/and a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum one year of progressively responsible experience in working with communication and media, with experience in Graphic Design;
  • Strong practical background in graphic design, including the knowledge of design software such as Adobe Design Premium-package and web design tool such as Dreamweaver and Flash;
  • Show a clear and mature style of design with an understanding to implement in an official UN setting;
  • Proven experience of graphic production from start to published/printed product with knowledge of printing processes (offset and digital) and color management;
  • Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms;
  • Knowledge of standard software packages (MS Office– MS Access–MS Visio –Adobe Acrobat).

Language:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic is required;
  • Knowledge in one or more UN official languages is desirable.
