Background

The Tacloban Emergency Zone Office will be closed effective 30 November 2015. However, due to delays in emergency programme implementation and the continued need for onsite monitoring presence of no staff would be recommended. Hence, hiring of driver to support the transportation need of the staff and possible visitors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the senior UNICEF Programme Specialist this post operates and maintains the assigned UNICEF vehicle and provides general services, including messenger and assistance at the airport to arriving/departing staff and visitors and will carry out the following tasks:

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by (a) driving office vehicles for the transport of staff, other officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and (b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including facilitating immigration and customs formalities, as required;
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
  • Responsible for the proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs.  Ensures that the vehicle is kept clean;
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle;
  • Logs official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.;
  • Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents;
  • Performs other duties, as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Completion of secondary education.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two year’s work experience as a professional driver; safe driving record;
  • Experience in emergencies and security a definite advantage;
  • Previous working experience with a UN agency an asset.

Skills:

  • Good knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle troubleshoot.

Language:

  • Fluency in the English and national language;
  • Knowledge of local dialect is an advantage.
