Background

UNDP’s Istanbul Regional Hub of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS (RBEC) is tasked with the responsibility to provide policy and programmatic support to UNDP´s development activities in the region. Throughout UNDP´s focus areas, it works towards increasing the impact of UNDP´s activities in the region by supporting Country Offices in development of country-level initiatives and by implementing regional-level projects in partnership with a wide range of partners supported to a global network of expertise.

Under the overall guidance of the Regional Communications Advisor, the Communications Analyst is responsible for positioning UNDP’s work across priority areas through multimedia and social media platforms. He/she is responsible for drafting and editing communication materials, and creating multi-media content. He/she is responsible for outreach with regional campaigns and press launches in coordination with relevant team leaders. He/she is also responsible for supporting communication initiatives positioning senior staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

Contribute to the implementation of regional communications work plan

  • Initiate, draft, edit communication multimedia materials, including press kits, fact sheets, infographics;
  • Write, edit and post range of online content to keep the regional website accurate and up-to-date;
  • Organize press events and position UNDP in press launches, events;
  • Work with relevant Regional Hub teams on communications to target donors and other partners;
  • Write, edit and manage social media content to engage audiences.

Support Regional Communications Team to expand UNDP visibility

  • Generate multimedia content, including infographics, video, photos;
  • Solicit, select and edit periodic blogs for the regional and global sites;
  • Solicit news and success stories from Country Offices and teams in Istanbul Regional Hub;
  • Provide communication and online advocacy support to Country Offices as needed;
  • Research, write, edit or film web news stories, and interviews drawn from UNDP work in the region.

Position UNDP in the media

  • Build relationships with external media and identify opportunities for UNDP experts;
  • Organize, provide support and arrange media interviews for UNDP experts;
  • Scan regional and global news to find relevant opportunities for UNDP outreach with media;
  • Pitch UNDP story ideas and experts to international media when relevant.

Support capacity-building in communications

  • Provide communications training and knowledge sharing with UNDP staff, specifically focusing on project/program staff in order to cover various aspects of digital communications for better project/program management: using digital communications for engagement and regular dialogues with top notch experts across fields of interest for UNDP; using new content forms to tell more effective project stories;
  • Provide online guidance to national communications officers for communications outreach;
  • Support regional communications in-person training to staff as needed;
  • Travel to Country Offices and relevant conferences and meetings to provide outreach suppor;
  • Train consultants and Country Offices on use of CQ5 for web updating.

Position UNDP with partners

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced degree (Master) in relevant field of communications, journalism, social science, or related field;
  • First degree acceptable with an additional two years of experience in relevant field of communications and/or journalism. 

Experience:

  • 2 years of work experience required in the field of communications and/or journalism;
  • Excellent IT skills, including confidence with web-based applications, and some knowledge of HTML, as well as video and photo editing and design software;
  • Good understanding of social media and online tools;
  • Professional editing and copywriting skills, including articles, reports, social media content, press releases.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Fluency in another UN language is an asset.
