Background

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for UNDP’s external relations and advocacy functions. The Bureau leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. Within BERA, the Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling. The Fundraising & Engagement team in the Communications Group leads on developing and implementing new programs to engage individuals in supporting and communicating about UNDP’s work in order to help raise UNDP’s global profile, build new audiences and raise funds for and awareness of the Organization’s corporate goals and priorities. Reporting to the Manager, Engagement, the Digital Good Associate will be responsible for producing and supporting engagement, direct action and fundraising products and infrastructure, supporting country offices, and supporting the Digital Good team. S/he is expected to have excellent administrative skills, strong written and verbal communications skills, innovative and creative problem solving skills, and excellent intercultural and cross-level communications and collaboration skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supports the implementation of engagement strategies:

  • Copy-edit and post multimedia products to the corporate websites and social media channels;
  • Support country office Digital Good operations by providing information to communications and web focal points in offices worldwide;
  • Support to increased awareness of UNDP’s engagement mandate and goals through dissemination of information, support to organization of public events;
  • Research and retrieve data from internal and external sources on all of the above; and
  • Provide suggestions, inputs, digital and administrative infrastructure development, coordination of all of the above.

Provide Operations-related support to the Digital Good Team:

  • Provide administrative support to the team as needed, including preparation of travel, payment of invoices in Atlas, facilitating implementation of legal and financial requirements for Digital Good at HQ and in Country Office locations, and other operations-related duties as required.

Support to knowledge building and knowledge sharing:

  • Participate in corporate trainings for Communications and/or Operations staff at HQ and share knowledge with colleagues;
  • Collaborate closely and on an on-going basis with the pool of Communications Associates and Officers to acquire and share knowledge through undertaking of common projects, trainings and/or backing up functions across Teams; and
  • Share knowledge around engagement, direct action and fundraising best practices to various stakeholders throughout the organization.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Completion of Secondary Education;
  • A University Degree in Communications, Marketing/PR, Business Administration or Social Sciences is desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; familiarity with the UN system preferred;
  • Knowledge in fundraising for international or national non for profit organization;
  • Excellent administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Office;
  • Familiarity with community management and engagement, volunteering, fundraising, web-based platforms and content management;
  • Good research and writing skills; and
  • Familiarity with the Communications/media environment.

Language:

  •  Fluency in English is required;
  • Working knowledge of other UN languages an asset.

Other:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Package required;
  • Familiarity with using social media platforms required;
  • Familiarity with fundraising and data management software an asset; and
  • Knowledge of business management software systems an asset.
