Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Human Resource (HR) section is responsible for the timely, accurate, equitable, effective and efficient delivery of all human resources management services, i.e. strategic staff planning, recruitment, staff administration, organizational design, workplace relations, performance management and learning and career development, for 1) the continuous development and improvement in human resource operations, policies, and methods to align with UN Women evolving business needs and 2) providing advisory support to the Executive Director in the formulation and implementation of UN Women's overall mission, strategy and plans of actions.

HR is currently developing a number of global human resources initiatives that will be rolled out over the coming 6 months. The roll out of these initiatives require strong HR outreach and internal communication support. The Consultant will play an important role in developing and launching a range of communication products to support the implementation of the global HR initiatives.

The consultant will report to the HR Director and will work together with the HR colleagues across recruitment, workplace relations, learning and development, policy and performance management.

Duties and Responsibilities

Objectives:

  • Restructure and redesign the HR intranet and HR internet presence to ensure it contains all relevant information and is user-friendly;
  • Develop and standardize branding of HR policies, procedures, presentations and knowledge products in line with UN Women’s corporate branding guidelines;
  • In collaboration with HR and Communications, ensure the quality, consistency and appropriateness of all HR communication materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead activities to launch and promote the new HR intranet and internet presence including orientation sessions for end users;
  • Update Human Resources internet and intranet based on feedback provided by users, with products delivered by the HR team;
  • Develop training materials for HR colleagues on best practice to publish and write content for the intranet;
  • Support the pilot and thereafter global launch of HR’s global orientation package and gather user feedback to inform improvements and the localization of information;
  • In collaboration with IT develop contents for online onboarding tool;
  • Create an standardized templates with Adobe InDesign to format HR’s monthly data reporting, annual report and HR strategy and other HR products;
  • Develop communication tools including videos for HR’s global learning and development, performance management and workplace relations initiatives;
  • Provide communication support to the roll out of UN Women’s core values as part of the recruitment, on-boarding and performance management initiatives.

Deliverables:

  • Simple, accessible and relevant HR intranet pages with clear links to UN Women branded policies and procedures;
  • Updated UN Women Employment Page with products to support potential applicants including a brochure;
  • A Global Orientation package complimented by online onboarding tool;
  • A suite of videos to support onboarding and workplace relations;
  • Branded templates for HR knowledge products;
  • Specific communications plans for key HR strategic initiatives and associated presentation materials for discussion with senior stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • A university degree preferably with specialized training in internal communicationstions.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience managing internal communications and outreach;
  • Experience with content management systems, designing websites, creating Information Architectures and working with collaboration software;
  • Experience developing content for web and print, including social media, videos, brochures, presentations;
  • Experience working with a human resource department on human resources products;
  • Experience working for an international organization;
  • Experience working for an UN organization is a significant advantage.

Language:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
