Background

The United Nations Development Programme is the global development network of the United Nations system, with firmly established presence in 177 countries around the world, and Headquarters in New York, USA.

The Bureau for Management Services (BMS) is the management arm of the organization, providing professional services in Resource and Operations Management aimed at achieving development results. Under the leadership of the Office of Human Resources (OHR) of BMS, UNDP recognizes the importance of its human resources, the people, and believes it is essential to build a strong base of ready expertise in order to be able to respond to the global needs and meet its mandate.

In line with this objective, OHR is looking to recruit an experienced webpage designer, to lead in the redesign of UNDP’s recruitment webpage into a modern informative and user-friendly interface between the organization and the global workforce. The Web Designer will work closely with a team in OHR to complete the re-design, and to help launch the new website in March 2016.

Duties and Responsibilities

The interested candidate will:

  • Meet clients to identify their needs and liaising regularly with them;
  • Draw up detailed website specifications;
  • Design sample page layouts including text size and colors;
  • Design graphics, animations and manipulating digital photographs;
  • Present initial design ideas to client;
  • Design the website's visual imagery and ensuring it is in line with UNDP branding Rules and Policies;
  • Proofread content and grammar and make changes where necessary;
  • Edit content, debugging code and re-designing web pages;
  • Test the website to ensure it is working;
  • Hand the completed website over to the client;
  • Post-sale technical support;
  • Train client's staff.

  • Proficient in main graphic design and photo editing software;  (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop)

  • Familiarity with main social media platforms;

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design or related field: IT, computer science/technology

Experience:

  • Proven Web Design experience;
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio;
  • Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps;
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, or other visual design and wire-framing tools;
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for rapid prototyping;
  • Experience in using Adobe CQ5;
  • Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user-system interaction?;
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and effectively;
  • Up-to-date with the latest Web trends, techniques, and technologies.

Language:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language an asset.
