UNFPA Nepal

The UNFPA Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme is intended to provide on-the-job training for young professionals who wish to obtain practical experience in development assistance.  It gives them an opportunity to acquire professional knowledge in population projects in a developing country.

UNFPA Nepal is currently implementing its 7th country programme (2013-2017), which contributes to three outcome areas of the 2013-2017 UNDAF and is being implemented under national leadership and through national systems, in line with UN reform and in partnership with external development partners. In line with UNFPA mandate, the programme focuses on three main areas: Sexual and Reproductive Health, Population and Development and Gender Equality and reproductive rights.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop knowledge products such as Policy Briefs, articles and papers and facilitate dissemination
  2. Analyze, interpret and disseminate new research findings, databases and repositories relevant to population and development, reproductive health and gender, and identify opportunities for UNFPA assistance and intervention.
  3. Keep abreast of new data processing and statistical analysis tools and database and dissemination tools and contribute to the capacity building of counterparts in these data and dissemination tools to enhance national capacity in evidence-based planning, results-based management and monitoring of development programmes.
  4. Contributes to creation and sharing of knowledge by synthesizing and documenting findings and lessons learned, success stories and best practices, strategies and approaches of the CO, and developing relevant materials for dissemination.
  5. Provides inputs to conduct relevant operational research and review and provide inputs to reports submitted to UNFPA by consultants and research agencies;
  6. Translates findings and data into attractive booklets, pamphlets for communication to a wider audience using among others infographics.
  7. Prepare regular progress reports and document lessons learned and challenges.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Postgraduate Degree in communication, demography, statistics, Social Work or other relevant field; or combination of education and relevant experience in a related field

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible professional work in field of Population and development related field;
  • Knowledge and understanding of key issues in reproductive health, gender and programs to end violence against women, population and data analysis tools ;
  • Experience in using different software for data analysis and infographics.
  • Prior experience in a developing country is an asset;
  • Prior experience in the field of development and population activities, Information/database management, research, monitoring and evaluation would be desirable.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely
