Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations System efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.the supervisor

Under the supervision of the the Knowledge Management Specialist, Policy Division, the Programme Analyst  is responsible for providing timely support and analytical information with regards to innovation and IT-related projects and partnerships, . This position is also responsible for preparing documents, coordinating and liaising with different stakeholders, mapping and designing partnerships. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide coordination and facilitation support to the Programme Division in the area of Innovation, technology and IT related projects:

  • Provide technical and coordination support to the Programme Division in interactions with UN Women Representatives, Regional Office and HQ staff on  innovation, technology and IT related projects and partnerships;
  • Provide technical support to the Knowledge Management Specialist in her interactions, representation duties, exchanges and relationship cultivation with other UN agencies, UN regional coordination mechanisms, regional and sub-regional integration mechanisms, intergovernmental bodies and national authorities by providing relevant background information as required and by working closely with liaison staff or senior officials of those entities as appropriate to ensure follow-up actions;
  • Assist in the implementation of partnerships and cooperation agreements, memoranda of understanding, etc. with partner institutions by channeling relevant directives and instructions and following up on commitments and any required action;
  • Provide relevant input when needed on key developments and opportunities to develop and strengthen institutional partnerships for the promotion of innovation, technology and gender equality and women´s rights in the region and to ensure the inclusion of a gender perspective in intergovernmental fora;
  • Keep the Programme Division informed of incoming requests, correspondence and all matters requiring her attention, provide sound input as appropriate to facilitate decision making and ensure follow-up action, as directed;
  • Maintain records and follow up on actions when required;
  • Serve as  note-taker in regular meetings and exchanges;
  • Liaise regularly with relevant parties keep abreast of ongoing issues, discussions and requests and regularly brief the Knowledge Management Specialist on urgent or pressing issues related to innovation projects and information technology.

Development and Innovation:

  • Map and design partnerships with key university programmes, leading incubators/accelerators and VS, design presentation materials for key events, meetings and other internal and external fora ensuring that UN Women´s corporate and regional perspective, goals, objectives, strategies and/or policies on technology, innovation and gender issues and ensure UN Women programmes are appropriately reflected, working closely with relevant staff as required;
  • Provide substantive support in managing and ensuring timely response to incoming requests from different divisions, liaising with Country and Programme Offices when needed, to gather and systematize input received in a timely and efficient manner.

Perform other official duties and special assignments which may be requested by the KM Specialist and Programme Director.

Impact of Results:

The key results have an impact on the overall execution of the Programme Division responsibilities and successful operation of UN Women.  In particular, the key results will ensure overall coordination and will have an impact on the delivery of partnerships and services.  Results will contribute to ensure a coherent team, timely and effective delivery of UN Women activities.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in one or more of the following disciplines: International Relations, Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Social Sciences.  

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in international/regional organizations and communications/public relations;
  • Experience with development and technology issues;
  • Experience working in International development preferably focused on, or strongly involving in gender equality at national, regional and/or international levels;
  • Prior experience in the UN System will be an asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required; 
  • Proficiency in other UN languages is an advantage.
