The Intern for the Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) Unit will work under the supervision and guidance of the Programme Specialist - EVAW Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research:

  • Undertake preliminary research and provide assistance in conducting research on Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) issues especially Violence against women in public spaces, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace, Trafficking in Women and Girls and Declining Child Sex Ratio in India. Provide assistance in conducting research on or any other report, best practices data base, project proposals etc. required by the EVAW unit;
  • Provide assistance in the development of draft concept notes, project proposals and reports.

Project/Programme Management:

  • Assist the Unit in organizing meetings and consultations. Streamline Project Monitoring system for all programs under the EVAW Unit, assist in preparation of financial documents as and when required by the Unit;
  • Assist in the drafting and designing of event brochures and invitations, on-site event logistics support and provide assistance for travel and participation of delegates;
  • Ensure that all required administrative tasks and logistics required for holding of the workshop such as selection and confirmation of meeting venue, booking arrangements for necessary equipment and materials for all the sessions of the workshop are carried out successfully and in line with UN Women rules and policies on procurement.

Knowledge Management:

  • Update Contact database for the EVAW Unit, assist in the development of knowledge products such as best practices, lessons learned, policy briefs on programs under the EVAW Unit. Participate in workshops and seminars including local monitoring visits to develop individual capacity on the above mentioned issues. Provide assistance in the preparation of reports from UNW Consultations/ Workshops/ Seminars. Maintain and update latest statistics on Violence against Women from different sources.

Communications and Advocacy:

  • Assist in the dissemination of EVAW IEC material and publications, preparation, editing and/or translation of communications materials (press releases, fact sheets, interviews, etc.) related to the launching and implementation of the Campaigns under the EVAW Unit. Assist in preparing for and organizing campaigns and activities around 8th March (International Women’s Day).

 Any other task assigned by the direct supervisor/Unit.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Enrolled in a masters programme in gender and development, social sciences, social development, public administration or related field.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience, part or full-time, paid or volunteer in development, research, advocacy, and policy development.

Language:

  • Fluency in English;
  • Excellent writing skills in English;
  • Knowledge of language of the duty station would be considered an advantage.

Conditions:

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UN WOMEN;
  • The costs associated with the latter must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel to and accommodation at the duty station (i.e. New Delhi, India).
  • Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out (i.e. New Delhi, India);

  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UN WOMEN but to complement an intern’s studies; therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.
