Background

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Online & Digital team’s Social Media Specialist, the Social Media Consultant will contribute in enhancing and expanding UNDP’s global multilingual online presence, improving UNDP’s outreach through compelling messages and graphic material.

The Social Media Consultant will be part of the Online and Digital Team, working closely with the Communication Group’s Fundraising and Engagement, Media and Advocacy and the Marketing and Outreach teams in the Communications Group, within the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA).

BERA leads and supports the organization in cultivating, building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances that are essential for advancing and successfully achieving the mission of UNDP. Within BERA, the Communications Group leads and manages external communications through strategy, media, digital communications, marketing, branding and global storytelling.

The Online and Digital team is responsible for enhancing the UNDP multi-lingual global web site and for all aspects of digital communications, including social media.

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will specifically be called upon to support UNDP’s communications efforts in the following areas:

  • Contribute in maintaining and expanding UNDP’s global online communities in Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn through drafting and editing social media content such as posts, photos and graphics, in coordination with language social media focal points and other stakeholders;
  • coordination with the language social media focal points for special events and topics, especially around the Sustainable Development Goals, the 50th Anniversary of UNDP, UNDP’s Good Will Ambassadors and the World Humanitarian Summit.     
  • Support the Good Will Ambassadors specialist with the design and implementation of graphic material to promote their work and create awareness;
  • Build and share knowledge with UNDP colleagues through participation in communications workshops, training and exchange of best practices, including updating and maintaining UNDP’s Social Media Toolkit.
  • Identify and develop creative opportunities to increase awareness of UNDP´s work in
  • Monitor trends in using social media for outreach purposes and appropriately apply that knowledge to increase UNDP’s visibility;
  • Monitor UNDP’s presence on global networks;
  • Undertake other relates duties as requested by the supervisor.

Expected deliverables:

  • Design and post global social media posts and  graphics for UNDP’s 50th Anniversary February 2016;
  • Design and post global social media posts and graphics for the SDGs by March 2016;
  • Design and post global social media posts and graphics for the World Humanitarian Summit by April 2016;
  • Design and post global social media posts and graphics for UNDP’s Good Will Ambassadors by May 2016;
  • Update UNDP’s Social Media Toolkit with graphics guidelines by July 2016;
  • Help increase UNDP’s community on corporate social media channels by 10% by July 2016.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Communications, International Relations or related field.

Experience:        

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience at the national or international level in digital media, journalism, communications or related field;
  • Experience with social media channels, preferably for a global nonprofit;
  • Experience with UNDP and UN system is highly desirable;
  • Demonstrated experience in speedy quality writing in English, analysis and problem solving;
  • Experience using graphic editing software desirable;
  • Experience in using knowledge management tools and systems.

Language:

  • Fluency in spoken and written English;
  • Working knowledge of Spanish or French desirable.

“All-inclusive” implies that all costs (excluding mission travel) that could possibly be incurred by the Contractor are already factored into the final amounts submitted in the proposal

Evaluation
Shortlisted candidates will be rated according to the following criteria:

Criterion Weight

  • Prove at least one year experience in social media content creation 50%;
  • Demonstrate at least one year experience in marketing or graphic design 30%;
  • Demonstrated professional experience in the UN system or similar global organizations 20%;
  • Total 100%.

NB: Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 70% in the Technical Evaluation would be considered for the Financial Evaluation

Cumulative Analysis will be used in determining the best candidate for this assignment. When using this weighted scoring method, the award of the contract is made to the individual consultant whose offer has been evaluated and determined as responsive/compliant/acceptable, and having received the highest score out of a pre-determined set of weighted technical and financial criteria:

  • Technical Criteria weight: 70%;
  • Financial Criteria weight: 30%.
