Background

Under the guidance and supervision of the Head of Office, OHCHR Sana’a, Yemen, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Head of the Office and other high-ranking OHCHR officials and visitors ensuring highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The Driver will also provide driving services to Consultants, Experts and other UN staff members on mission in the country.

Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures the provision of reliable and safe driving services by:              

  • Drive the office vehicles for the transportation of the Head of Office, members of staff and other high-ranking officials and visitors;
  • Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items.

Take and collect officials, personnel and visitors to and from the airport including carrying out visa and custom formality arrangements when required;

Ensures cost-savings through proper use of the vehicle by providing accurate daily control operational form and by proposing regular maintenance programme;

Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by carrying out timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, regular changes of oil, checking of tyres, brakes, washing the car, etc.

Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and all the other necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle;

Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken into consideration in case of an accident.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: 

  • Secondary Education;
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Experience:

  • 2 years’ work experience as a driver; safe driving record;
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in Arabic and some knowledge in English.
