Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) is the UN’s strategic programme framework that defines the UN’s support to national development results. UN Women in Uganda co-chairs the Human Rights and Gender Equality Outcome Results Group and chairs the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Advisory Group, which is the UNCT group responsible for the coordination of and policy advice on gender equality issues in the UNDAF. UN Women is also a principle partner in several outcome results groups in the UNDAF and as well as a partner to several UN joint programmes. UN Women is the Secretariat to the Gender Development Partners Group, a coordination mechanism that is comprised of the lead donors in Uganda.

In September 2014, the United Nations in Uganda conducted a Gender Scorecard Exercise that assessed the capacities of the United Nations Country Team to respond to its gender mainstreaming responsibilities and the coordination function of the gender theme group. The recommendations from the Score Card are carried forward to the 2016 – 2020 UNDAF. With the enhanced role of UN Women as the leading agency on coordination and gender mainstreaming, and the ensuing increased role of UN Women to lead the UN Gender Advisory Group of the new UNDAF, a strong, flexible and versatile coordination function within UN Women Country Office is required.

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Country Representative, and in close collaboration with the Deputy Representative, the Coordination Analyst will be responsible for strengthened accountability of results for gender equality and women's empowerment, enhanced efficiencies, improved coherence, and joint action through better coordination between UN agencies, the government and development partners. UN Women is the lead agency formulating the One UN Gender Programme which will assist the UN agencies to implement gender equality targets and goals in the new UNDAF.
