Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations System efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

Under the supervision of the Programme Specialist, Programme Management Office (PMO) the Programme Analyst is responsible for providing coordination and analytical support to the PMO, including providing timely analytical information, prepare documentation, establish and manage tracking and monitoring systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide coordination and analytical support to the Programme Management Office (PMO):

  • Gather, compile and analyze information from UN Women offices globally in the area of programme management;
  • Ensure that all information is provided in a consistent manner;
  • Review documents and identify trends, lessons learned, best practices and challenges related to programme management;
  • Review data from tracking and monitoring issues, provide recommendations based on the data and make PMO Specialist(s) aware of actions to be taken;
  • Monitor UN Women’s programmatic implementation, communicate and liaise regularly with Country and Programme Offices to ensure smooth implementation and timely support.

Provide data information and knowledge management support:

  • Provide substantive inputs to the design, development and management of UN  Women programme management tracking and monitoring systems;
  • Create and maintain appropriate information and documentation to track/support project and programme delivery;
  • Prepare and/ or provide substantive inputs to reports and provide data as needed;
  • Review documents and identify trends, lessons learned, best practices and challenges related to programme management;
  • Review and check substantive materials for accuracy as requested by PMO Specialist(s);
  • Ensure all information on programme management is easily available for all relevant offices;
  • Update information on the intranet on programme management and results based management.

Coordination and liaison support:

  • Liaise with offices, including Country Offices, Regional Office, HQ staff and programme management on exchange of information and data, programme implementation and work planning;
  • Provide technical support to Country Offices on programme management and results based management;
  • Respond to queries and request for information; compile and maintain data and documentation related to these;
  • Organize and coordinate regular meetings between PMO Specialist(s) and Programme Director, keeping track of issues raised and ensuring action and follow-up when required.

Training Management:

  • Provide technical inputs to the development of training materials on programme management and results based management
  • Coordinate the organization on trainings and meetings on programme management.

Perform other official duties and special assignments which may be requested by the Head of PMO/Programme Specialist.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in one or more of the following disciplines: International Relations, Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs, Social Sciences;
  • PRINCE2® Foundation certification or equivalent is required;
  • PRINCE2® Practitioner and/or Project Management Professional (PMP®), and Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®) certifcation is desired.

Experience:

  • 2 years of progressively responsible experience in international/regional organizations and project/programme management;
  • International development work preferably focused on, or strongly involving gender equality at national, regional and international levels;
  • Prior experience in the UN System is an asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required; 
  • Proficiency in other UN languages is an advantage.

In July 2010, the United nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
