Background

The United Nations Development Programme is the global development network of the United Nations system that is on the ground in 177 countries, with its Headquarters in New York, USA.  The Bureau for Management Services(BMS) is a central Bureau tasked with the development of corporate strategies, policies, tools and systems in key cross-cutting management areas. Drawing on sound analytics and a risk-management approach, BMS supports the achievement of development results through management advice, innovative business solutions, and other corporate services in line with international best practices and evolving needs and expectations of development partners.  BMS also ensures policy adherence in operations management within UN Rules & Regulations, safeguarding UNDP’s accountability vis-à-vis Member States and other stakeholders.

The Office of Human Resources (OHR) supports UNDP in achieving its vision and objectives through enabling the organization to attract, manage, and retain staff with relevant technical expertise, competencies and skills, by providing strategic HR advice and creating an inclusive working environment where staff are engaged, continuously develop professionally and perform at their best. Operating within the Bureau for Management Services (BMS), OHR’s key clients include UNDP executives, CO and HQs leaders and managers, individual staff members and HR practitioners.  The team works closely with colleagues in business solutions, OFRM and others in the BoM team to ensure a seamless service to our clients.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of team leaders, the incumbent will: 

  • Perform statistical analysis of HR data for reporting to senior management, departments, Offices, missions, and member states.
  • Provide support to the design, development and delivery of the Human Resources reporting system - OBIEE.
  • Perform analysis of HR issues including identifying best practices and helping develop solutions.
  • Identify and analysis demographical trends including age, gender, occupation.
  • Identify human resources data quality issues and solutions to overcome.
  • Designs systems, processes, tools, and instruments for workforce planning, focusing on simplification and automation.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the use of the ERP (Atlas) by suggesting enhancements of the system’s functionality and improving the range and quality of data for all categories in the workforce.
  • Analyses reports and advises on constraints and opportunities for recruitment, staff development, retention, and staff turnover.
  • Develops workforce scenario recommendations, based on realistic assumptions for attrition, recruitment, and promotion, to meet annual and longer term organizational requirements.
  • Does a one-time Review of access rights provided through ARGUS to HR practitioners worldwide, and 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Experience

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled and actively pursuing or have recently graduated from a Bachelor’s/ Master's degree in Management, Human Resources, IT or related field. Applicants must have knowledge in IT or HR. SAP or other HRIS course work.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications – word, excel, access, outlook
  • Experience with HR information systems and reporting modules.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail; process oriented.  

Timing:

The start date is May 2016. Please indicate availability in application materials. Internships can last for a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 months. Internship can be part time or full time.
