Background

In May 2016, the UN Secretary-General will convene a World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) to leverage new partnerships, technologies, and ways of working with the aim of improving the effectiveness of global humanitarian action. The discussions setting the agenda at the World Humanitarian Summit must represent the widest range of perspectives and experiences. Inputs are needed from everyone, including governments, UN agencies, the private sector, international and local civil society organizations and, most importantly, people and communities who are affected by humanitarian crises.

In the two years preceding the summit, eight regional and two global consultations has been held to gather the perspectives of stakeholders from nearly 200 countries. At the same time, consultations have also take place online, enabling a truly global discussion to take place. Four themes have served as broad categories to guide the conversations: (1) humanitarian effectiveness; (2) reducing vulnerability and managing risk; (3) transformation through innovation; and (4) serving the needs of people in conflict.

In the lead-up to the World Humanitarian Summit, the WHS secretariat has commissioned five country reports and one larger summary report on the needs, priorities, and aspirations of crisis affected communities themselves.

The reports are in process of being completed and the final versions are expected to be delivered to the WHS by the end of April. Consequently, in advance of the Summit (23-24 May), there is a need to design and layout all the reports. Five country reports of approximately 50 pages each and one summary report of approximately 80 pages. The country reports will be published on-line on the WHS website. However, the summary report will printed in hard copy. The Graphic Designer will be required to monitor the printing process to ensure the delivery of a quality product.

The estimated total number of pages of the reports would be 380 pages: Aghanistan (50 pages); Guinea (50 pages); South Sudan (50 pages) Syria (80 pages; Ukraine (50 pages); Summary report (100).

The consultant will be in close contact with relevant staff at the WHS Secretariat, including as necessary professionals working on communications, communication with affected communities, and event management.  The day-to-day work of the consultant will be supervised by a designated WHSS staff.

All tasks will have to be completed by May 20, 2016.  PDF files of all reports will be forwarded to the WHS communications Tean no later than May 15, 2016.
