Background

The UNDP Egypt Information, Communication and Reporting Unit (ICR) internship is for 3-6 months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Interns will gain first-hand experience with regard to the United Nations country programme activities in the area of strategic communications as well as public information and media relations. They will also gain a greater understanding of how the UNDP works and its range of activities in Arab Republic of Egypt.

Duties and Responsibilities

The internship is centred on assisting the Information, Communication and Reporting Unit (ICR) in discharging a range of strategic communications and public information as well as multimedia tasks to raise the organizations visibility. The following responsibilities can be adapted, as appropriate, to fit each intern.

  •  Help design and prepare various information materials and publications;
  • Provide assistance in preparing the multimedia public information materials of ICR, including presentation, slide shows and video production as well as social media pieces;
  •  Help initiate contents/feeds for social media channels and explore more potential social media means to raise visibility of ICR work;
  • Support the management of UNDP’s online presence on social media including regular updates and campaigns;
  • Monitor and analyse online conversations around central development issues and identify opportunities for UNDP to engage in these conversations;
  • Prepare analytics reports on a regular and ad-hoc basis that synthesize digital impact and suggest adjustments of outreach initiatives based on data;
  •  Provide assistance in editing and creating film videos, mix sound and diaporamas, if required;
  • Provide assistance in creating and enhancing photo library;
  • Help prepare captions as well as upload and download the photos to/from photo library;
  • Help take photos of events, when required;
  • Carry out and/or initiate tasks/special projects;
  • Assist with Communication Analyst contributions to UNDP website; if required.

In cooperation with the Communication Analyst, the multimedia intern also:

  •  Help prepare the daily UNDP Morning News Headlines;
  •  Provide research for background/information materials;
  • Assist in the preparation of briefing sessions on the work of  UNDP
  •  Assist in the organization and execution of special events to mark UNDP observances, press conferences, media launches or exhibitions.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Applicants must be:

  • enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
  • have graduated with a university degree (and if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, ;
  • have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience:

  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of Arabice is an asset.

Upon completion of the assignment, the intern will have/be able to:

  • A deepened understanding of overall international development practice, particularly of the UN system, as well as approaches that the UN employs to translate its global values and the spirit of the UN Charter into practical work;
  • Obtained skills in coordinating processes that include a multitude of stakeholders;
  • Gained results-based management skills required for international development projects, including project design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Skills and experiences in policy analysis in the area related to sustainable development and 2030 agenda ;
  • Acquired an in-depth understanding of (inter-)governmental processes.
