Background

The Security Section at UN Women Headquarters in New York seeks to enlist a full-time or part-time intern to support the section in the development of an internal communications strategy, development of materials and implementation of communications strategy.  

The position is located within the UN Women Department of Management and Administration, Office of the Security Services Section. The Security Communications and Advocacy Intern will report directly to the UN Women Global Security Associate, under the oversight of the Global Security Advisor. 

Duties and Responsibilities

In line with the approved UN Women Security Services Section Annual Work Plan (AWP); the Security Communications and Advocacy Intern, will provide support to the development of outputs, whilst also scoping internal UN Women security communication requirements and developing a communications plan and materials.

The Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Design, development and implementation of an internal UN Women security communications strategy.
    • Further develop a communications strategy for the security section
    • Development of information and communications materials (as required)
    • Implementation of internal communications
  • The reconfiguration, update and where and when necessary, population of the UN Women Security Services Section Intranet portal, to reflect security communications, under the guidance of the UN Women Global Security Associate. The Intern will:
    • Liaise with appropriate units, divisions and sections internally, utilising all available mediums;
    • Liaise with appropriate external UN sister agencies externally utilising all available mediums;
    • Understand and update the Intranet portal to reflect updated security communications materials and information as required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an undergraduate programme that includes the studies of communications or be a recent graduate of such a programme.
  • Study or experience in the field of communications and international relations is desirable.
  • Must have valid visa for the United States of America
  • Fluent in English.
  • Proficient in using new technologies, web-based platforms.
  • Interest in women’s rights issues or international development/relations.
  • Self-starter; organized; able to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities.
