Background

UNDP and the State of Kuwait, represented by the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council of Planning and Development (GSSCPD), strive to enhance institutional capacities at various government agencies by providing them with necessary technical support to strengthen their capacities and skills to perform their expected duties.

Under the framework of the Institutional Capacity Development for Implementation of the Kuwait National Development Plan (ICDI/KNDP) project, UNDP and GSSCPD attempt to support public entities to increase technical expertise and institutional capacities for strategic planning and implementation of Kuwait National Development Plan.

GSSCPD is responsible for elaborating, coordinating and overseeing the Kuwait National Development Plan (KNDP) which addresses the challenges of economic development, human and social development, the efficiency of the state institutions and administration and combating corruption, in accordance with H.H. the Amir’s State Vision “Kuwait 2035”.

Within this context, GSSCPD is seeking to recruit a Graphic Designer to work closely with department for development and follow up on implementation of plans and programs with the purpose of maintaining its branding identity and producing attractive and high quality designs for its various printed and digital products especially those related to KNDP.

The objectives of the assignment are the following:

  • Design high quality, high resolutions printed and digital products for internal and external uses;
  • Ensure the implementation of branding and graphic standards and maintain and update different products’ designs;
  • The assignment contributes to the KNDP objective of spreading awareness about the components of development plans and their projects KNDP to the public, parliament and government. It contributed to the Project’s output: Improved human capacity and organizational effectiveness of the GSSCPD for development planning; activity.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Planning and Program Department at GSSCPD and with close coordination with IT Department and Project Manager, the Graphic Designer will assume the following tasks:

Task 1: Design the layout of the various printed products produced by the GSSCPD in line with existing branding and standards

  • Create various attractive and high quality KNDP and GSSCPD products: annual reports, thematic reports, plans, brochures, newsletter, posters, etc, for printing at high resolution and for electronic distribution;
  • Collaborate daily and closely with copywriters, editorials and oversee production teams in GSSCPD departments to ensure a consistent visual image and high quality product;
  • Design templates for the new publications and products in line with branding and graphic guidelines and in close cooperation with responsible department at GSSCPD;
  • Maintain designed templates (words, power points, etc) and give technical support to use them;
  • Improve and edit art-works, photos, charts and other graphic elements;
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a photo archive for GSSCPD.

Task 2: Design high quality digital content using various software

  • Prepare the layout and design of the presentations by key departments used during meetings and workshops;
  • Create animations in Power Point, Flash for illustrative purposes such as animation of plans, maps, and more advanced solutions;
  • Develop infographics to present information and data for various audiences in a clear and engaging manner in coordination with the relevant department;
  • Design creative graphics suitable for use in new media (You Tube, Linked In and other) with the required resolution;
  • Develop new pages/sections of GSSCPD website in line with existing branding, graphic guidelines and web interface, including operational databases and other interactive products in close collaboration with the web developer and database developer from the IT Department;
  • Train various staff members from GSSCPD on design of presentations and infographics at basic level.

Task 3:? Follow up, maintain & strengthen GSSCPD identity brand

  • Implement the graphic guidelines and ensure that all publications and reports are produced in line with the GSSCPD branding and graphic guidelines;
  • Assist in, modify and further develop branding, graphic guidelines and standards, in line with overall GSSCPD directives, if requested;
  • Advise on and support in implementation of media campaigns as per areas of expertise.
  • Present regular reports to the SG and GSSCPD Project Manager highlighting key deliverables with recommendations for the way forward.

  • Deliverables would be determined based on discussions with the Direct Supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Minimum Bachelor degree in Graphic Design, multimedia, Visual Arts/Communications or other related fields.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant professional working experience in the fields of graphic design, multimedia, visual arts, communications and outreach;
  • Proficiency with in Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, MX Flash, MX Fireworks, Xara3D6;
  • Image Ready, Word, PowerPoint and other graphics applications, and familiarity with HTLM and CSS;
  • Excellent management, negotiation and communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Previous experiences designing highly visible products for National, private sector, international NGOs and/or UN agencies is preferable;

  • Story boards, Video editing and photography experience a plus.
  • Excellent design skills, including typography, layout, color theory, branding, user interface and navigation;
  • Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have a positive attitude and high work ethic, and be able to meet deadlines.?
  • Innovative and creative thinker with strong conceptual and creative skills as well as an excellent graphic design skills, layout and typography to produce new ideas.
