Background

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) GSSU internship programme offers an outstanding graduate-level student the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work with the objective of deepening his/her knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various professional aspects. Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. 

To support its activities, UNDP utilizes ICT to leverage internal capacities on office effectiveness and efficiency.  Through this internship programme, it is expected that graduates with good education experience can be enhanced through practical work assignment; provide exposure for the interns to an international environment; expose them to work of the Organization with the objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles and activities. UNDP offices will also benefit from the assistance of qualified students specialized in ICT fields.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regularly and timely provide 1st level ICT end-user support as assigned and via ICT helpdesk. Assist in the programming and implementation of new systems
  • Assist in troubleshooting of network issues
  • Assess, diagnose and provide resolutions to end-user problems in accordance with the foundations of ICT service management and service delivery. Assist in maintenance of relevant knowledgebase, processes and procedures for the ICT Help Desk.
  • Work with other staff within the unit to share best-practice solutions for improved services delivery
  • Attend to the operations of ICT Service Desk Management System and handling communication in support of service support whenever required. This may involve incident registration and monitoring.
  • Assist in maintenance of user accounts within appropriate workflow mechanism and procedure to facilitate user access to various ICT services
  • Prepare the required performance monitoring output reports on ICT support services
  • Assist in implementation of technical preventive maintenance to ensure business continuity, maximum systems security and better equipment lifetime.

Impact of Results

The key results have an impact on the overall efficiency of the Country Office including improved business results and client services. Forward-looking ICT management has an impact on the organization of office management, knowledge sharing, and information provision.

Required Skills and Experience

In order to be considered eligible for the UNDP GSSU Internship Programme, you would need to meet one of the following requirements:

  • You are currently enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); in Information Technonlogy or Computer Studies; or
  • You are currently enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); in Inromation Technology or Computer Studies or
  • You have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) (if selected, you must start the internship within one-year of graduation).

IT Skills

  • Knowledge in network administration, support to management of hardware and software platforms, telecommunications facilities, knowledge of Windows-based packages/applications.

Language Skills

  • English is the working language of GSSU

Residency

  • Please note that you will have to secure your travel visa and residency status in Malaysia prior to taking up your internship. GSSU is unfortunately unable to offer you support in obtaining these documents.

Conditions of Internship

  • Applicants must complete the online form and upload a recent CV/resume
  • Additional information regarding the UNDP Internship Programme may be obtained at http://www.undp.org/internships;
  • UNDP does not pay for internships. The costs associated with the latter must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc.

Subsequent Employment

  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.

  • Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in or completion within 12 months of a graduate-level degree programme
  • Proof of medical insurance valid for the duration of the internship in Malaysia
