Background

The UN Women Security for Arab States Region seeks to enlist a full-time or part-time intern to support the section in educational development. UN Women has recognized a need for developing an internal business development, communications strategy and strengthening the security support to Arab State Region and increase security capacity to support and promulgate UN Women within the United Nations Security Management System.

This position is located within the UN Women Jordan Country Office to provide support to the Regional Office of Arab States (ROAS).  The Security Business Development Intern will work in close coordination with Security Assistant and the UN Jordan Country office and will report directly to the UN Women Regional Security Specialist of Arab States and Asia Pacific Region.  The role will be completed from UN Women Jordan Country Office with no requirement for travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

In line with the approved UN Women Security Services Section Annual Work Plan (AWP); the Security Education Development Intern, will provide support to the development of outputs, whilst also scoping internal UN Women security training needs, communication requirements and developing security training plan, evaluation and materials. Therefore, the Security Education Development Intern will be responsible for the following:

  • Conduct research of training needs for UN Women personnel within ROAS. The intern will liaise with all appropriate security focal points in the region utilizing all available mediums and will coordinate the completion of:
  1. Conduct Security Training Surveys and information gathering to support UN Women Country Team, and programme offices in Arab States Region.
  2. Design communication materials for sharing with UN Women personnel across the region.
  3. Build relationships and liaise with Security Focal Points (SFP)s, UN Security Management System (UNSMS) representatives on UN Women advocacy and respond to organizational needs.
  4. Assist the Security Assistant in UN Women’s Jordan CO as deemed needed.
  • Design and develop an internal UN Women ROAS security training strategy, and assist in its implementation of security mainstreaming, security guard training and guard performance and security awareness for Women.   
  1. Scope UN Women’s organizational needs and develop a training strategy of training material/outputs for UN Women country offices and its programmes and operations across the region
  2. Development of information, training and communications materials (as required).
  • The reconfiguration, update and where and when necessary, population of the UN Women Security Services Section Intranet portal, to reflect security communications and training in the Arab States Region, under the guidance of the UN Women Regional Security Specialist.
  1. Understand and update the Intranet portal to reflect updated security communications materials and information for the Arab State Region as required.
  2. Assisting security focal points to update global premises list of ROAS.  

Competencies

  • Fluent in English and knowledge of Arabic is desirable
  • Proficient in using new technologies, web-based platforms.
  • Interest in women’s rights issues or international development/relations.
  • Self-starter; organized; able to multitask and balance multiple responsibilities.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an undergraduate programme that includes the study of security, education, risk management or international relations or be a recent graduate of such a programme.
  • Study or experience in the field of security risk management is desirable.
