Background

Being LGBTI in Asia (BLIA) aims to reduce marginalization and exclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people. Initiated in 2012, the programme addresses inequality, violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status, and promotes universal access to health and social services.

The BLIA programme makes extensive use of information and communications technology to engage with the community, partners and other audiences. Communications efforts are closely aligned with the programme’s objectives and are guided by a communications strategy, which aims to ensure that stakeholders are kept informed of activities and results, and the programme actively engages with online audiences and advocates for LGBTI inclusion. Multiple channels and initiatives are utilized to implement the strategy, including video, social media, blogs, storytelling, newsletters, media outreach, locally tailored content, etc.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 170 countries and territories, working with governments and people on their own solutions to global and national development challenges to help empower lives and build resilient nations.
