Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate the United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

The UN Women Office in Myanmar focusses on Governance, Peace and Security with a significant component of its work on the current peace process and on post conflict governance reform. This includes research, policy advocacy and capacity building on a spectrum of issues from a gender equality and women’s rights perspective, such as: the international human rights architecture on women, peace and security; the national architecture and process on the same; mediation, ceasefire monitoring; federalism; a women’s agenda for peace; inclusion of women and their priorities in all aspects of the peace process; governance, security and justice sector reform.   

Against this background, UN Women, Myanmar seeks to hire a Documenter to support the various activities organized by UN Women Myanmar Office in relation to the mentioned goals and objectives.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

The consultant will work under direct supervision of National Programme Officer - Governance, UN Women Myanmar who will be responsible for the quality assurance of the deliverables to ensure following tasks and deliverables are to be submitted:

  • Simultaneous Interpretation from English into Myanmar
  • Simultaneous Interpretation from Myanmar into English

Note: The consultant is required to inform UN Women on the progress of his/her work on regular basis.

Competencies

  • Familiarity with CEDAW, gender and development, women, peace and security terminology is an advantage.
  • Fluency in both Myanmar language and English

Required Skills and Experience

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in any related field.
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience in English-Myanmar-English translation preferably for UN agencies, and other development organizations.
