I. Organizational Context

The National Forest Inventory (NFI) in Indonesia is a system in which spatial and field data is collected, stored and analysed by the Ministry of Forestry. The data management system for the field data is currently being upgraded to a new system, Open Foris Collect. Open Foris is a suite of open-source software packages developed by FAO and partner specifically for entering and managing NFI data. In order to adapt this system to the Indonesian circumstances and requirements set by the Ministry of Forestry the UN-REDD programme is currently recruiting a programmer.

Under supervision of the Director of Forest Resource Inventory and Monitoring and guidance from UN-REDD Team Leader 2 and FAO programme Officer, the above mentioned National Consultant shall conduct specific activities related to programming for the Data Management System.

II. Functions / Key Results Expected

Summary of key functions:

The task will include but not be limited to:

  • Prepare Inventory Data Model (IDM) and configure Open Foris Collect specifically for the Indonesia NFI data
  • Work with the Ministry of Forestry to adapt Open Foris Collect to meet the new requirements set by the Ministry
  • Work closely with FAO HQ staff to coordinate development and share contributions to system
  • Apply software development best practices outlined by Open Foris core team
  • Produce a report clearly explaining the work done and remaining tasks/requests
  • Perform other duties as required

Capacity building, training and/or simulation exercises organized for operationalizing the plan;

Qualifications et expériences requises

V. Recruitment Qualifications

Qualification: 

  • University degree in Computer Science

Experience: 

  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience;
  • Experience with Core Java and Flex for developing RIA.  PostgreSQL or other relational database experience is a must.

Language Requirements:                  

  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English.
