UNDSS on behalf of UN Security Management System (UNSMS) is responsible for providing leadership, operation support and oversight of UNSMS to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the programmes and activities of the United Nations System. A Driver cum Office Clerk is a key element to support UNSMS.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Under the direct supervision of the Security Adviser (SA) in Nepal, the Driver cum Office Clerk provides the transportation service. The Driver cum Office Clerk is also responsible for printing and issuing UN ID cards for UN personnel and dependants under the direct supervision of SA.

Summary of key functions:

  • Drives office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
  • Logs in official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, general condition of vehicles, etc.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle - checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., performs minor repairs and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and in good working condition at all times.
  • Keeps track of regular maintenance & servicing schedule and arranges for vehicles to be inspected and repaired at the officially designated workshop; checks the vehicle prior to and after the workshop visit.
  • Drives office vehicles for field trips whenever required.
  • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accident or in case of theft of vehicle parts.
  • Meets official personnel at the airport and facilitates immigration and customs formalities as required.
  • Keeps updated/renewed vehicle registration blue book/driving license in the vehicle in their person all times.
  • Ensures that there is no unauthorised use or misuse of vehicle; additionally ensures that unauthorised person or equipment is not carried in the vehicle.
  • Ensures that the safety belt is worn at all times while they are driving.
    Assist Radio Telecommunication Assistant (RTA) on installation of HF, VHF radio and satellite phone in the vehicle.
  • Responsible of day-to-day receiving UN ID card request forms from UN Agencies, Fund and Programme (AFP).
  • Update the information in UN ID card database and print the ID cards as per UN ID card policy and supervisor’s instruction.
  • Take the picture and signature of UN personnel & dependants for UN ID cards. Edit the photograph and signatures as required.
  • Issue the printed ID card and maintain a proper filing system.
  • Other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Compétences

  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English and Nepali languages.
  • Must possess excellent driving skills on and off the road.
  • Knowledge of driving rules & regulation and Divers License is mandatory.
  • Competent to operate the vehicle safely in all local conditions (including snow, ice, and sandstorms), to invoke defensive driving techniques as necessary.
  • Responds positively even under pressure.
  • Displays harmonious & cooperative spirit with colleagues.
  • Display cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality & age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the UN mission, vision & values.
  • Some knowledge and understand of the UN security policies preferred.
  • Knowledge and understand of HF & VHF communication would be preferred.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Completion of School Leaving Certificate/Secondary Education.
  • Training in Defensive Driving.

Experiences:

  • Three years of work experience as a driver with a safe and excellent driving record is essential.
  • Earlier experience in 4x4 vehicle driving would be preferred.
  • Experience in minor vehicle repair would be preferred.
  • Experience in installation of HF and VHF radio in UN vehicle.
  • Understanding of the UN rules and regulations for safe driving will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in clerical work will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in the usage of computers, photo processing software and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English and Nepali languages.
