The Bureau for Development Policy (BDP) is responsible for articulating UNDP’s development policy, using evidence gathered through country applications, regional experiences and global interactions. BDP has a key role to play in helping country offices accelerate human development by supporting the country offices in the design and implementation of programmes and projects that effectively contribute to national-level policies and results. Driven by demand, and working through the Regional Bureau and the RSC, BDP provides the tools, analysis and capacities that country offices need to make a real difference in UNDP’s practice areas.
 
BDP’s support of UNDP’s strategic plan 2008-2013 is focused in 4 practices (Poverty Reduction, Governance, Environment and Energy, HIV/AIDS) and 2 thematic areas (Capacity Development and Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment).
 
The Poverty Group (PG) of the Bureau for Development Policy (BDP) is the institutional anchor of UNDP’s work on poverty reduction and MDG acceleration, with gender equality and capacity development as cross cutting themes. Led by the Practice Director, PG provides core services designed to support global, regional, national and local efforts to reduce poverty and reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These include technical and policy advice, policy analysis and advocacy and knowledge brokering. In line with the above, Poverty Group is producing a number of knowledge products, briefs, policy notes, reports  addressing various development issues and challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Consultant will support the  the review of the existing drafts with an aim to, fact check, check the text and data for accuracy. Whenever required, the consultant will assists the  additional background research necessary to assist various teams producing such products.  The Consultant will also support organizing peer review of the case studies through correspondences with peer reviewers, partner organizations, and workshops. Finally, s/he will coordinate their editing and desktop publishing. The consultant will also assist with administrative and organizational work as required with the publication and dissemination of these knowledge products. .
 
The final product of the consultancy will be the edited final version of different knowledge products, briefs, policy notes, and reports.
 
Specific Deliverables
  • Various reports, briefs, policy notes, reports to be ready for publication
  • Preparation of Knowledge Dissemination Workshops in April, May, June and July
  • Write ups for Programme Stories, Policy Report Summaries, practice news, and correspondence with partners

Payment

The payment shall be made on a daily basis, at the rate established.
 
Reporting
The consultant reports to the Practice Director.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Required Skills and Experience: (70%)
Education
  • A Bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years of relevant research support and event organization experiences -10%
Experience:
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages. -20%
  • Outstanding writing, editing and fact-checking skills, attention to detail and the ability to review and provide comments on knowledge products – 20%
Language:
  • Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written, in English.-20%

Evaluation Method

Cumulative Analysis - The financial will account for 30% and technical will account for 70% of the total evaluation score.
