The UN System is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. It works with individual countries on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. The UN System in Lesotho supports Lesotho’s development priorities laid out in the National Strategic Development Plan and through that, the achievement of the MDGs. The main focus areas of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework are Food Security; Health; Democratic Governance; Environment and Energy; Poverty Reduction and Economic Growth, with Gender Mainstreaming and HIV/AIDS as crosscutting areas.
 
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Communication’s and Report’s Specialist reinforces capacity of the UN Country Team to monitor and report on results and develop information materials through a variety of modalities to highlight  the United Nations Development Assistance Frameworks (UNDAFs) and joint programming in Lesotho. Information must be tracked on a regular basis and the UNCT informed of the status of collaborative efforts and how these results will be communicated to the appropriate audiences.  
 
The UN Communication’s and Report’s Specialist works with the members of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office. The UN Communication’s and Report’s Specialist works in close collaboration with UNCT members, programme and operations teams of the Agencies, UNDGO staff and Government officials, technical advisors and experts, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful and transparent coordination of messages and information on UNCT activities.

Devoirs et responsabilités

  • Ensures effective support to UNCT in monitoring the progress against the 2013 - 2017 UNDAF and Joint UN programme coordination;
  • Implements and monitors the approved UNCT Communications Strategy ;
  •  Coordinate on behalf of the UN RC the gathering of information produced for the joint working groups including the OMT, DMRT, M & E working group and the PMT;
  • Ensures preparation , implementation and cordination of the RC Work Plan and reports;
  • Ensures effective advocacy of UN activities in close consultation with the regional UNIC office and the information / communication focal points of the UN system;
  •  Ensures creation of strategic partnerships and implementation of the resource mobilization strategy for UNDAF implementationfocusing on achievement of the following results: Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Economics, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Sciences, Journalism, or related field.

Experience:

  • 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in providing management advisory services, hands-on experience in design, monitoring and evaluation of communications strategies and products;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, social media, experience in handling of web based management systems.
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential
