Under the overall guidance and supervision of the Country Director, the Communications Analyst will develop, manage and implement the Communications Strategy and Annual Work Plan to deliver high quality outputs in communicating UNDP’s development results. This is with a view to influence the development agenda, to promote public and media outreach and to mobilize political and financial support for UNDP. 

The Communications Analyst maintains a working relationship with the Regional Communications Specialist, Business Development, Programme and Operations teams, staff of other UN Agencies, UNDP HQs staff (Communications Office) as well as with media, development partners and civil society to communicate development results. Additionally, the incumbent will work closely with the UN Communications Group and other UN agencies in Ghana to coordinate joint events around UN days, etc.

A communications strategy tightly linked to program priorities helps position the Country Office in key development markets as a thought leader in ways that boost demand for various service lines and increase overall business opportunities.

Summary of Key Functions

Ensures implementation of communication strategies and outreach focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Elaboration of the CO communications strategy based on corporate communications strategy;
  • Assisting to coordinate and monitor work plans of the programme clusters for the development of success stories;
  • Supporting the creation of visibility and publicity of UNDP/GOG projects, including preparing UNDP Development Reports and other UNDP publications;
  • Development and maintenance of close contacts with government officials, multilateral and bilateral donors, civil society and private sector for implementation of the communications strategy;
  • Crafting sound messages and writing articles, press releases and speeches around relevant events in ways that position UNDP and influences the development agenda;
  • Facilitating the flow of relevant information to UNDP staff;
  • Constructive and timely advice on inclusion of communications components in programme formulations to integrate advocacy and communication strategies into all aspects of UNDP’s development programme;
  • Strengthening UNDP’s role in the ‘One UN’ image – “Delivering as One” – through the implementation of joint activities such as UN Days and other campaigns.

Provides support to the maintenance of the UNDP web site, intranet, CO web-based knowledge management system focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Ensuring updated country office website in conformance to corporate dashboard requirements;
  • Preparation of the content for the web sites ensuring consistency of the materials;
  • Timely sharing of relevant messages with the UNDP publics using corporate social media platforms under the guidance and supervision;

Supports the business development

  • Promotion and dissemination of corporate advocacy materials for launching flagship initiatives and publications such as the Human Development Report;
  •  Promotion and maintenance of public information campaigns on UNDP activities, results of MDGs, UN Reform;
  • Preparation and dissemination of newsletter to donors, donor reports, civic education and community awareness, where appropriate, to support projects;
  • Timely and effective responses to inquiries for public information materials;
  • Ensured access for journalists to subject matter experts;
  • Innovative and creative solutions to sensitive or corporately strategic public communications issues;   

Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned directly linked to programme country goals and activities;
  • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice including corporate communications repositories;
  • Provision of  trainings, UNDP staff on communications for development;  
  • Professional growth through active learning ;

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:
  • Master’s degree in communication or related field.
Experience:
  • Relevant experience at a national or international level in corporate communications, and advocacy programmes;
  • Demonstrated experience in design and implementation of organizational communication strategies;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web-based management systems;
  • Experience in coordination and event planning;
  • Experience in partnerships and resource mobilization.

Language:

  • Excellent command of English language (written and spoken), working knowledge of French will be an added advantage.
