Historique

The Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTF Office) is a UN centre of expertise on pooled financing mechanisms. It supports development effectiveness and UN coherence through the efficient, accountable and transparent design and administration of innovative pooled financing instruments as well as provision of advisory services for fund operations. Housed within UNDP, the MPTF Office is firewalled from all UN implementing entities, UNDP included.

The MPTF Office has put in place a number of tools and systems to support its fund administration services, including a separate General Ledger Business Unit in UNDP’s Enterprise Resource Platform (ATLAS) and the MPTF Office GATEWAY (see mptf.undp.org). The MPTF Office’s current portfolio is over $7 billion in total (> 750 million/year) and includes over 100 pooled financing mechanisms (country-level and global MDTFs, Joint Programmes and National Funds), established for humanitarian, transition, development and climate change activities.

The MPTF Office team consists of about 20 staff members, supported by consultants for specific tasks. The Fund portfolio team is organized in different thematic teams. The intern will be part of the team headed by the Portfolio Manager that is focusing on development, and climate change issues. S/he will work under the direct supervision of this Portfolio Manager and under the overall guidance of the MPTF Office Executive Coordinator. 

Devoirs et responsabilités

Under the direct supervision of the Portfolio Manager and overall guidance and direction of the Executive Coordinator of the MPTF Office, the Intern will: 

  • Provide technical support to the National Secretariat, including supporting the drafting process of the Mali Climate Fund operation manual;
  • Support the operations of the Mali Climate Fund, including participation in coordination meeting with UNDP GEF, UNICEF and FAO and in selected steps of the fund administration process;
  • Participate in drafting of country case studies on Financial Climate Institutions through extensive research of existing documentations and articles related to this topic;
  • Supports the development of outreach products and activities for the Mali Climate Fund and possibly other Funds in the climate change portfolio.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Eligibility: 

  • Current enrollment in a masters or equivalent degree in Economics, Social Sciences, International Relations, Political Sciences or related field;
  • Only those students who will return to their studies upon completion of their internship assignments are eligible.

Language:

  • Fluency in English and French.

  • UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.
  • UNDP does not pay for internships.  The costs associated with the latter must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or by the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his or her own arrangements for travel, accommodation, etc.

Subsequent Employment:

  • The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.

Applicants who are shortlisted for the interview must submit prior to the interview the following documents:

  • Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in a graduate-level degree programme;
  • Copy of school transcript; 
  • Letter of endorsement from a faculty member who has worked with the student in the recent past and who is knowledgeable on the student’s performance;   
  • Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out (i.e. New York, USA).
