Under the overall oversight of the Chief Security Adviser and the immediate supervision of Field Security Coordination Officer for South Yemen, the Local Security Assistant (LSA) provides security information, advice and service to the DSS staffs, their dependents and other UN officials and visitors. (S)he is required to display highest standards of discretion, integrity, sense of responsibility, knowledge of protocol and an awareness of prevailing security environment. The LSA also operates emergency communications system (VHF and HF radios), demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Assists the FSCO South in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the southern region of Yemen;
  • Helps FSCO in the development of the Area Security Risk Assessment (ASRA) for South;
  • Maintains the Area Security Plan for South, including updating Staff Lists and other annexes;
  • Conducts the Facility Safety and Security Survey (FSSS) assessments according to the country Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS);
  • Conducts the residential assessments of staff residences according to the country Minimum Operational Residential Security Standards (MORSS)
  • Runs daily administration of the office;
  • Maintains the Petty Cash and keeps the updated vouchers;
  • Collects information regarding security incidents affecting the safety of UN staff, offices and assets;
  • Assists in planning, organizing and delivering training on security awareness and preparedness;
  • Maintains close coordination with Host Government authorities and regularly exchanges information with them;
  • Helps FSCO in organizing the meetings of the Area Security Management Team (ASMT) and takes and maintains its minutes;
  • Conducts rehearsals / drills of the security procedures to test the level of their preparedness;
  • Prepares and maintains a database of security logistics and resources;
  • Any other task entrusted by the FSCO or CSA.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Secondary education or above. University education is highly desirable;
  • Valid Driver’s license;
  • Basic IT skills: Microsoft Office, typing and attaching documents, receiving and sending emails;
  • Ability to write basic word documents and able to make PowerPoint presentations.

Experience:

  • Five years of experience in safety and security work – preferably in Police or Military background;
  • Experience with an NGO, Embassy or UN agency an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluent in written and spoken Arabic;
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written English.
