The UN Country Team has recognised the need for increased professional message transmission, especially from the rural communities at this time of the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the region.

The need to recruit and place four professional radio Operators in Bo/Moyamba, Kenema and Port Loko has met the approval of the UNCT, in order to enhance communication within the UN Common System in Sierra Leone has been approved thereof.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Under the overall control of the CSA but under the immediate supervision of the Local Security Assistant in charge of the Region, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

  • Maintain permanent radio and telephone communication with all Security Base Stations, all Security Officers, and all UN Agencies, as applicable;
  • Ensure that all communication equipments are clean and in good working condition;
  • Notify immediately the respective authority/person in charge for response or rescue operations about emergency calls or calls for help/assistance;
  • Obtain accurate information and respond to where necessary for further action about all reported incidents, accidents and other relevant occurrences;
  • Monitor, coordinate and liaise with the necessary stake holders in the district to ensure the safety and security of all staff deployed and visiting the AOR;
  • Coordinate and investigate all incidents involving UN staff and where required coordinate with the police or otherwise;
  • Assess, and carry out MORSS security required surveys for the staff and facilities;
  • Coordinates and attends security stakeholders meetings and drafting Weekly Security Update and sending to the FSCO/LSA information;
  • As quickly as possible drafting incident reports and also informing the ISCC of all security incidents that might affect the safety and security of staff;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Chief Security Adviser, the FSCO or the DSA.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • High school or equivalent education supplemented by Radio Communication knowledge.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience at the national level in a security related field, experience in radio communications and the capacity of writing comprehensive communication reports.
  • Experience within the UN system in the field of security and administrative services are an advantage;
  • Experience with Pass & ID software;
  • Experience in typing correspondence in English;
  • Experience with use of computer, security equipments and skills and ability to use MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.

Language Requirement:

  • Fluency in English is required.
