The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed an agreement for a US$ 5.4 million grant for micro enterprise and livelihoods recovery, in the aftermath of the devastating April 25 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks.

The Rapid Enterprise and Livelihoods Recovery Initiative (RELRP) under Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP) will help people recover their livelihoods. Through quick reactivation of local enterprises and establishment of new enterprises the project will also rebuild local economies.

The project, which will be implemented in cooperation with the Nepal Ministry of Industry, targets a total of 12,000 existing beneficiaries of two ongoing initiatives: Micro Enterprise Development Programme (MEDEP) and Micro Enterprise Development for Poverty Alleviation (MEDPA) Programme. In addition new micro entrepreneurs will also be supported. MEDEP and MED-PA focuses on the most marginalized populations in highly affected districts.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Communication and Documentation Officer (CDO) will report to Rapid Enterprise and Livelihoods Recovery Project (RELRP) Manager and will closely work with Communication and Documentation Specialist and Area Programme Support Manager (APSM) of MEDEP. The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Prepare and implement effective and efficient communication strategies for the project and implement to have a greater impact and outreach of the project’s achievements;
  • Collect and compile information from project staff and partner organizations and prepare publicity materials for project visibility at district and national levels;
  • Document best practices and success case studies of Programme beneficiaries and disseminate through appropriate organizational and public information channels;
  • Train programme and partner organization staff in documentation and communications, technical writing of successful case studies, best practices and other occasional reports;
  • Co-ordinate with stakeholders and different media for the dissemination of Project information and its initiatives to have a greater impact and outreach of the project’s achievements;
  • Act as a liaison for different media organisations to disseminate RELRP outcomes, success stories and best practices;
  • Regularly prepare and update RELRP related activities through social media ,newspaper and web sites;
  • Provide support in producing periodic reports and other relevant reports as per the need of the project and edit reports and other documents to ensure quality and consistency;
  • Ensure that RELRP activities are planned and implemented in a gender sensitive and socially inclusive manner and that all implementing partners are sensitized and trained in gender and social inclusion;
  • Translate documents and reports from English to Nepali language and vice versa;
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Project Manager.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Masters’ degree in Development Communication or Journalism or relevant social science from a recognised university.

Experience:

  • S/he should have 3 years experience in media, journalism or development communication activities in Nepal or in developing countries. Additional degree in English will be an added advantage.

Computer Skills:

  • S/he must be well versed in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, desktop publication packages, internet and social media; photography and basic photo and video editing skills is desirable.

Language requirement:

  • Fluency in both spoken and written Nepali and English languages with excellent report wring skills. Skills in typing in both English and Nepali language (Unicode preferred) is essential.
