Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Communications Analyst, the Communications Associate supports the implementation of the communications and advocacy strategies of the office to increase the standing and awareness of UNDP with partners, the media and the public. The Communications Associate promotes a client-oriented approach in UNDP.

The Communications Associate works in close collaboration with the Management Support and Business Development, Programme, Operations and project staff in the Country Office and UNDP HQ, as required.

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Support to implementation of communications and advocacy strategies;
  • Administrative support to communications team;
  • Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing;
  • Support in the management of the office website based on corporate requirements and through the corporate content management system (CQ5);
  • Undertake preparation of the content for the web sites (stories, and photographs from the field) based on corporate standards and country office context;
  • Supports the implementation of CO communications and advocacy strategies and CO publications policy focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Logistical support to the organization of publicity/outreach for the CO programme, knowledge-sharing events and promotional opportunities, especially UN events;
  • Dissemination of information and publications; assistance at public events such as roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, interviews;
  • Maintenance of information database and photo library;
  • Collection of information, preparation of content for the web sites;
  • Produce draft succinct stories for the UNDP country office website and other media channels in cooperation with task managers and project focal points;
  • Work with content providers to research or rewrite material from the standpoint of reader interest, clarity, political sensitivity, thoroughness and accuracy, as well as relevance to UNDP’s focus areas;
  • Extraction of data from various sources;
  • Research and retrieval of statistical data from internal and external sources;
  • Arrangement of briefings and regular meetings with other UN agencies in the CO and with national and international media;
  • Visit UNDP project sites and photograph project beneficiaries as follows: people working on site; portrait shots; single beneficiaries; men and women working together; women working; men working; people handling money; new technologies acquired as result of project; people using technology; horizontal and vertical of same subjects; dramatic angles; close-up, midrange and wide-angle shots;
  • Provide caption information within the individual photo file including: names and ages of beneficiaries and businesses; city; country; date, description of activity in photo;
  • Deliver photo in high resolution jpeg or raw files (300 dpi at 8 x 10 inches);
  • Logistical support to UN information campaigns (UN Day, World AIDS Day);
  • Administrative and logistical support to the communications team, including for initiatives such as media workshops, press briefings, report launches;
  • Budgetary support in Atlas as required, including creation of vendors;
  • Review of translations, contacts with printers and other suppliers to ensure production.

Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Identification, documenting and drafting of best practices and lessons learned;
  • Participation in training for the CO staff on effective communications and advocacy.

The key results have an impact on the reputation and standing of UNDP in the country. High quality information material and well-organized public events enhance UNDP position as a strong development partner.  A client-oriented and efficient approach impact on the image of UNDP in the country.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in communications, journalism, social development and/or other related field.

Experience:

  • 4 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations and administration;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel);
  • Experience in handling of web-based management systems.

Language:

  • Fluency in Arabic and English.
