UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services of UN Women Armoured Vehicles to the UN Women Country Programme Manager and other high-ranking UN officials, UN Women operations and programme staff, consultants and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver needs to also demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Provide reliable and safe driving services:

  • Drive office vehicles for the transport of UN Women Country Programme Manager, other high-ranking officials, visitors, UN Women Programme and Operations staff;
  • Ensure that all passengers wear their seat belts at all times in the vehicle, and that all other security regulations as per MOSS policy are being followed;
  • Enforce the no smoking policy in the vehicle;
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.

Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle:

  • Maintain daily vehicle logs, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil change, servicing, greasing, and repairs;
  • Provide inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle:

  • Ensure that the official vehicle is kept clean and is always in good working condition;
  • Make minor repairs and arrangements for major repairs;
  • Change oil, check tires, brakes, and wash car.

Maintain and ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle:

  • Ensure that all immediate actions required by rule and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.

Provide general administrative and logistic support as needed:

  • Assist office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining required records;
  • Assist in the mailing and distribution of publications and payment of bills, as required

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:         

  • Secondary Education;
  • Valid Driver’s license. 

Experience:       

  • Three year work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record;
  • Experience in driving Armoured Vehicles required;
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair is required

Language:          

  • Fluency in English and Somali is required;
  • Knowledge of the other UN working knowledge is an asset.
