UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, operational since January 1 2011, works towards accelerating the United Nations’ goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The UN Women (UNW), grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, the UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Specialist, the Project associate ensures effective execution of the project “Prioritizing education of girls and young women as a key to empowerment, inclusive growth and social transformation in Egypt.

Devoirs et responsabilités

Provide on-going technical guidance, oversight and coordination of the project including:

  • Coordination of all involved parties in the implementation of this project (government partners, NGOs and UN agencies). This coordination will entail accompanying the implementing partners in the field to assess adherence to the agreed work plan and reviewing reports prepared by them;
  • Monitor the implementation of the project, including preparation of timely progress briefs and preparation of draft reports;
  • Maintain an internal reporting/monitoring system on the project;
  • Contribute to the technical design of the project.

Contribute to knowledge management and organizational learning from the project by documenting and sharing key results, lessons learned and good practices emerging from the project:

  • In consultations with the Programme Manager, identify and follow-up on opportunities for resource mobilization;
  • Maintain a good and complementary working relationship with UN agencies team as well as all implementing partners and stakeholders;
  • As part of the Egypt UN Women team, participate in internal planning, activities, monitoring and reporting;
  • Implementation of project management standards, including project initiation, entering project into ATLAS, preparation of agreements, determination of required revisions, coordination of the budget revisions, and closure of projects;
  • Provide administrative and financial support including issuing of contracts, preparation of payments, travel arrangements and all required admin procedures;
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Political Sciences, Gender, Human Rights, social science or related fields desirable. Masters degree is a plus.

Experience: 

  • At least 5 years of working experience;
  • Experience in and exposure to development issues and challenges in Egypt;
  • Prior professional experience in the management and operation of technical assistance assignments or projects;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Proficient with Word Processing, Spreadsheet and Presentation-type software.

Language:

  • Fluency (written and verbal) in English and Arabic required.
