Under the guidance of DRR and direct supervision of Programme Specialist – EEIE, the Communications Associate supports the implementation of the Amerindian Land Titling (ALT) communication strategy to increase the awareness of the land titling and demarcation processes with Amerindian villages and communities, partners, the media and the public. The Communications Associate promotes a client-oriented approach in UNDP.
The Communications Associate works in close collaboration with Amerindian Village Councils and Community Councils, National Toshao Council, Amerindian NGOs, the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs (MoIPA) and other Government officials, Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF) team in the CO, staff of other UN Agencies, UNDP HQs staff (Communications Office) and the Regional Communications Advisor, media, multilateral and bilateral donors and civil society.

Summary of Key Functions:

  • Support to implementation of ALT communications strategy;
  • Support to implementation of UNDPs safeguards and standards in the roll out of the ALT communications strategy;
  • Maintenance and updating of websites content, databases and knowledge management systems;
  • Facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing.

Supports the implementation of ALT communications strategy focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Support to increased awareness of Amerindian land titling and demarcation processes through dissemination of information, organization of targeted events;
  • In coordination with MoIPA and supervisor, development and preparation of materials for marketing and awareness-raising including briefing materials and press releases;
  • Organization of publicity, advocacy, knowledge-sharing events and promotional opportunities. Provision of logistics support to the events;
  • Review of reference materials, identification of reference materials for retention. Maintenance of information database, video and photo libraries;
  • Research and retrieval of  data from internal and external sources.

Ensures implementation of UNDPs safeguards and standards in the roll out of the ALT communications strategy focusing on the achievement of the  following results:

  • Suggestions, inputs, content development, coordination of production and dissemination of press releases, publications, articles and sharing of UNDPs safeguards and standards as well as CO knowledge and successes.

Ensures maintenance and updating of websites content, data bases and knowledge management systems focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Updated and high quality websites content in line with corporate branding requirements;
  • Preparation of the content on Amerindian land titling and demarcation processes for the websites ensuring consistency of the materials;
  • Maintenance of other web sites and databases as assigned.

Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Support to UNDP GRIF team and ALT Project Management Unit in identification, documenting and drafting of best practices and lessons learned;
  • Organization of training for the UNDP GRIF team and ALT Project Management Unit on effective communications and advocacy.

Qualifications et expériences requises

Education:

  • Completed secondary education;
  • University degree desirable, but it is not a requirement.

Experience: 

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience at the national level in providing communication packages to promote the activities of international development organization;
  • Experience working with indigenous communities and knowledge of the GRIF;
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.);
  • Experience in handling of web-based management systems.

Language:

  • Fluency in English Language.
