Antecedentes

UNDP’s Poverty Practice in the Bureau for Development Policy (BDP) would like to recruit a Consultant to work on a report on vulnerability and human development in the context of recent crises. The Consultant will be recruited and based in New York working under the supervision of the Director, Poverty Practice.  The work of the Consultant  largely focus on conducting research and literature review for specific section of the report, updating data and coordinate the report’s review and publication process.

Deberes y responsabilidades

Objective:
 
The primary objective of the consultancy is to help finalize and publish the vulnerability and human development report.
 
Duties:
The consultant will conduct a comprehensive revision of the report and will draft sections that need to be added, update all statistics, figures and charts in the report with the most recent information available, and coordinate the peer review and publishing process. The final product of the consultancy will be a draft report ready to be published.
 
Specific tasks include: 
  • Draft and revise specific sections of the report with the most recent data available.
  • Review and update all statistics and graphs in the report.
  • Coordinate peer review, editing and publishing process.
  • Undertake other tasks as required.

Reporting:

The Consultant shall report to Selim Jahan, Director, Poverty Practice. The consultant is expected to liaise and incorporate comments and suggestions from peer reviewers.

Competencias

  • Strong macroeconomic background.
  • Sound grasp of substantive and policy issues related to current economic and development debates, particularly economic growth, human development and sustainable development.
  • Ability to analysis data and drawn relevant conclusions.
  • Strong and proven verbal and written presentational skills in the English
 

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:
  • Master’s degree in Development Economics, Economics, or closely related field.

Experience: 

  • 2 years of professional experience, part of which in conducting research required;
  • Outstanding writing skills and the ability to synthesize large amounts of information into succinct notes;
  • Advanced quantitative skills and experience, ability to compile and work with large datasets;
  • Excellent command of English (oral and written), knowledge of another UN language/s would be an asset;
  • Effective team player, good communication and inter-personal skills, ability to be part of a culturally diverse environment, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
  • Familiarity with the UN system and development agenda would be an asset.
 
Evaluation Method:
  • Cumulative Analysis - The technical portion will account for 70%, and the financial proposal will count for 30% of the total evaluation score.
