Center for Economic Research (CER) and UNDP have jointly launched implementation of a new project titled “Supporting Modernization, Accelerated Reform and Transformation (SMART)”. The Project will be a new phase of cooperation of mentioned above agencies and will support CER in facilitating economic, social, institutional and spatial transformation in Uzbekistan while expanding research areas thematically and geographically, promoting participatory policy dialogue and issuing wider range of products for various types of audience.

The Project activities will be focusing on:

  • elaborating policy recommendations with participation of all stakeholders at all stages of this process;
  • building public awareness about the new stage of reform in Uzbekistan as well as promoting the Uzbek development model within “South-South” cooperation modality;
  • strengthening institutional and financial sustainability of CER allowing it to rely more on its own resources.

While implementing these three components CER/SMART Project will also contribute to capacity building of central and local authorities, other research institutions and mass-media by involving them into collaborative studies and conducting short-term training.

At this point an important role of CER/SMART Project lies in raising public awareness on development and reform agenda secured through various communication channels, including the “Economic Review” magazine, analytical bulletin “Uzbek Economic Trends”, statistical review “Almanac of Uzbekistan”, “Business Perception Index”, Internet blog, social media and etc.

The Economic Review (ER) magazine over the years has become one of the most reliable economic periodicals in Uzbekistan. The magazine highlights socio-economic development processes and is intended for both national and international audiences, including economists, policy-makers, private business representatives and other interested parties.

Since 2005 the ER magazine is re-orienting towards private sector / private business through greater focus on covering the problems and prospects of business development in Uzbekistan.

On this stage the ER ensured effective dialogue between business and society. Main focus in thematic of the ER were development issues of the private sector, interaction with the government, improving conditions of doing business in Uzbekistan, and also provide businessmen with necessary information in the sphere of business management.

Deberes y responsabilidades

Under the direct supervision of Research Coordinator on Institutional development of Economic Review magazine and with close collaboration with Designer/Layout and Art-manager the incumbent will perform the following duties and tasks:

 
  • Development of illustrations in order to decorate or to convey information;
  • In cooperation with Art Manager bring together articles, photos, advertising, announcements and other elements (including participation in electronic formation) of every issue of the ER magazine and CER/SMART other products (publications, brochures, press releases, one-pagers, banners, promotional materials, etc.);
  • Develop (using creative skills) the visual appeal of the ER magazine and CER/SMART Project offline as well as on-line products/resources;
  • Participation in development of video products, particularly, the incumbent should act as a technical as well as creative developer;  
  • Development and implementation of creative designing concepts for PR section/unit of the Economic Review magazine and CER/SMART as a whole. Particularly, provide technical assistance in realization/implementation of PR initiatives;
  • Use of artistic approach to communicate a message of the ER magazine materials to a target audience of the magazine;
  • Work with existing photo base in order ensure technical photo processing for the Economic Review magazine and CER/SMART other products;  
  • Participation in expert groups responsible for peer-review of articles to be published in the ER. Particularly the Illustrator will be responsible for fitness of the illustrations to the thematic topics of the articles;
  • To perform other duties as required.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

  • Secondary education with specialized certification in design, information technologies or relevant field.
  • At least 3 years practical experience in the area of computer designing and layout;  Knowledge of the publications production process and techniques;multimedia and web production process and techniques, video and photo production process and techniques, interactive production (flash or html based) process and techniques.
  • Fluency Russian. Knowledge of Uzbek and English is an asset
