Antecedentes

This position is located in the UN Women the Department of Management and Administration, office of the Security Advisor. The Business Continuity Management (BCM) Specialist reports directly to the UN Women Security Advisor.

In line with the approved UN Women Business Continuity Management (BCM) framework, which sets out the governance structures within the organization as to how to deal with continuity of operations, the BCM Specialist will be responsible for the following:

Review HQ business units’ needs and determine their business continuity requirements. This means i) business continuity in relation to HQ’s own interrupted essential/critical operations, and ii) HQ’s uninterrupted essential/critical support to the Country Offices (CO). The consultant should analyze the business impact for respective business units; define critical functions and systems of the respective business units, and determine possible linkages and interdependencies UN-Women have with other UN Agencies (e.g. UNDP, etc.) in order to maintain its business continuity.

Deliverables:
  • A fully functional BCP;
  • Testing of the BCP through table-top exercises and drills, and
  • Training of respective business units.

Based on the above-acquired experience, business requirements, and lessons learned, develop a business continuity manual for UN-Women to be deployed in the field. Deliverables:

  • Business continuity manual that shows step-by-step COs how to develop their BCP, systems, forms, and tools required to establish a functional BCP;
  • Manual must incorporate a multi-faceted approach when planning for security risk, natural disasters and stakeholder impact risk

In support of implementing BCP in the COs, organize 4 regional training workshops to walk the participant through the steps of establishing BCP in their respective COs including how to conduct table top exercises and drills. Deliverables:

  • Four Training workshops.

Coordinate continuity activities with business units and offices as required.

Deliverables:

  • Draft a business continuity guidance manual for UN-Women
  • To have a functioning BCP for HQ in New York
  • To have functioning BCPs for Regional Offices
  • To conduct testing and table top exercises before finalizing the BCPs

  • Possesses good communication skills (spoken and written), including the ability to draft/edit in a clear, concise style. In-depth experience with making presentations, including conducting training and workshops, chairing meetings, and drafting official documents.
  • Planning and organizing: Is able to plan own work, manage conflicting priorities and work under pressure, including adjusting priorities as required, using time efficiently, and allocating appropriate amount of time and resources for completion of work.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field. Training and certification in business continuity/organizational resilience. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience (minimum 7 years of in depth experience in business continuity management and solutions) may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
 Work Experience:
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in project or programme management related to the development of business continuity management, or related area. Experience in crisis management is desirable.
Languages:
  • English and French are the working languages UN Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
Travel:
  • The BCM Specialist will require extensive travel, and may include hardship locations.
