Antecedentes

The United Nations Development Group (UNDG) has recently adopted a “Resilience-based Development Response to the Syria crisis,” and has established a Sub-regional Response Facility for Syria (SRFS) in Amman, Jordan, led by a Sub-regional Development Coordinator, to support its implementation. The SRFS provides timely, strategic, programmatic and organizational support to the UN Country Teams in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and Iraq, intended to complement, add value to, and enhance their capacities to respond to the crisis without adding to their cost. The SRFS also contributes to improving sub-regional coordination with a variety of partners and enhancing cost-effectiveness.
The SRFS provides support in external relations, advocacy and communication. This stream focuses on:

  • Positioning the development response as a critical and complementary component of the overall response to the Syria crisis, among key constituents including governments, sister agencies, donors and other humanitarian and development actors;
  • Cultivating strategic partnerships and alliances, and maximizing technical and financial resources available, that are essential for an effective response to the crisis; and
  • Ensuring improved humanitarian-development coordination and complementarity between the work of all United Nations agencies involved and other key actors.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The purpose of this consultancy is to create inspiring photographic and interactive experiences for UNDP’s work in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. This involves creating still photographs, for UNDP to use online and in print publications.

Also, creating a 360-experience for use in UNDP’s external communication, telling the macro as well as micro perspectives of the Syria crisis’ impact on a host community in Lebanon and one in Jordan. Letting people experience - face to face with the people affected - what the Syria crisis means for the neighbouring countries and their people. And what UNDP is doing to help these communities cope, rebuild, recover and protect their development gains.

The 360-experience will be produced in the same style as http://zaatari360.martinedstrom.com/, focusing on one key area of Lebanon and one in Jordan. This will be a pilot project, exploring the 360-format for further use with UNDP projects.
The final product, the microsite 360-experience, will be deployed, hosted and published on UNDP’s website, with credits to Martin Edström for the production.

Main Tasks of Photographer/360 Expert:

Under the overall direction and guidance of the Sub regional Development Coordinator, in collaboration with the Communications Officer and the entire SRFS team, the consultant will produce the following deliverables:

Image library

  • A total of 500 images from UNDP’s project sites in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq (Erbil);
  • Prepare digital images for cataloging: using naming convention, number and save high-resolution images
  • Research and write photo captions;

360 experience microsite (Jordan & Lebanon)

  • A first splash-screen, with name of the 360-experience and UNDP’s logo;
  • An interactive map, where the visitor can zoom into one location in Lebanon, one in Jordan and then select where to ‘enter’ the 360-experience on the map;
  • Two different locations in Lebanon and Jordan, in total about 20 separate 360-images;
  • 10 separate images for each location, making the visitor able to explore each location through the interactive interface;
  • Voice-overs introducing the area and explaining different issues in the host communities, as well as describing UNDP’s work;
  • Both texts and voice-overs can be presented;
  • Of the 10 separate 360-images, 3-4 of them are portraits of people. These can be Syrian refugees, UNDP staff or members of the host community;
  • Voice-overs including the interviews of the people portrayed;
  • Embedded interactive information, like clickable objects resulting in the opening of a PDF or website. These interactive items will be provided by UNDP;
  • A control bar for navigation as well as social media sharing;
  • The microsite is adapted for smartphone and tablet use, using HTML5;
  • UNDP can provide a custom style sheet (CSS) as well as customized buttons (in PNG format) for use within the 360-experience.

The microsite is delivered as a complete HTML5 package, ready to deploy online on UNDP’s website. The source files have been successfully deployed for clients like The Guardian, and have been successfully run on several international web servers with different configurations.
