Antecedentes

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors. Under the guidance and supervision of the Country Representative, the Security Coordinator will ensure the application of security procedures, in line with UNDSS and UN Women’s security SOPs. 

Deberes y responsabilidades

Ensures the application of security procedures as outlined in security SOPs and relevant security guidelines, focusing on the achievement of the following results:

  • Support to UN Women staff in liaising with the concerned authorities, police, other government agencies and institutions regarding camp permits and permissions;
  • Ensure that all personal have required Security Clearance prior to travel to Zaartari;
  • Maintain regular radio and phone contact with programme staff and UN radio room, monitors and support response to emerging security issues;
  • Supports programme team in executing appropriate response to critical events, security concerns and evacuations;
  • Provide accurate safety and security advice to UN Women staff on the safety and security of UN Women personnel and assets.
  • Ensure that security advice and guidance conform to UN and UN Women security policy, standards and instructions;
  • Maintain and update UN Women Jordan security and contingency plans as they relate to work being done in camp and host community settings, and ensure compliance with plans;
  • Support a functioning warden system for staff located in office, camps and host communities;
  • Share travel and security advisories;
  • Regularly update the Representative on any security development or significant events affecting work in the country, camps and host communities;
  • Maintain regular contact with UNDSS and provide inputs to UNDSS to assist in the preparation of comprehensive Security Risk Assessments;
  • In close coordination with UNDSS, ensure appropriate professional liaison with host government agencies, local authorities responsible for security, law and order, counterparts in UN and diplomatic missions and municipal/traditional leaders;

Ensure the security of UN Women managed buildings in camps and host communities:

  • Assisting UN Women in ensuring that all of its buildings meet necessary safety and security requirements;
  • Assist in the selection and supervision of guards in camps and host communities.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • College/Diploma Degree is necessary;
  • Special training certificate on security and safety related issues is an asset.

Experience:

  • At least 4 years progressively responsible experience in the security and safety field, preferably in the military or police context;
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable;
  • Strong knowledge of security protection and body guarding;
  • Knowledge of HF and VHF radio operation;
  • Solid computer skills.

Language(s):

  • Fluency in Arabic and English.

Other:

  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to travel;
  • Physically Fit.
