The Intern will work under the supervision of the UN Women Head of Private Sector Relations and Private Sector Resource Mobilisation team in the Strategic Partnerships, Advocacy, Civil Society, Communications, Resource Mobilization Division at UN Women HQ in New York;

The Intern will support the implementation of strategies to strengthen UN Women’s partnerships with the Private Sector;

The internship will provide an opportunity to be involved with the implementation of UN Women’s Private Sector Strategy.  In addition, the internship is an opportunity for a student of business or marketing to connect the theoretical aspects of their coursework with the practical application, for example, in packaging/articulating UN Women work into cases for support to attract private donations and in researching corporate social responsibility policies and priorities of potential partners and their objectives and commitments to gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Upon completion of the internship the intern will have strengthened his/her capacities to:

  • Understand UN Women’s mandate and programmes;
  • Understand how UN-private sector partnerships are built, strengthened and maintained;
  • Understand the drivers of corporate sustainability and partnerships for international development;
  • Develop communication tools and messages for a UN agency.

Deberes y responsabilidades

  • Support the assessment of current UN Women Private Sector outreach tools and messages;
  • Support the development of new UN Women Private Sector outreach materials and messages;
  • Undertake research into the corporate sustainability strategies of specific potential private sector partners and assist with screening and due diligence of potential private sector partners;
  • Assist with the development of proposals for UN Women’s outreach to specific private sector organizations and individuals;
  • Support customizing UN Women’s case for support for UN Women’s global mandate as well as specific country programmes;
  • Support liaison with current private sector partners and foundation supporters including reporting on financial contributions;
  • Support the updating of specific donor information and databases;
  • Support development of private sector and foundation engagement guidelines for National Committees and Country Offices;
  • Participate in weekly Division and team meetings.

Habilidades y experiencia requeridas

Education:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree within one year of start of internship or during the 4th and final year of Bachelor’s degree, or undertaking a Master’s in one or more of the following - Business, Communications and Marketing, Social Sciences.

Experience:

  • Experience in designing and producing marketing and communication materials desirable;
  • Experience in big data visualization and social media an asset;
  • Understanding of the interest of the private sector for working with the UN an asset;
  • Knowledge in the field of women’s economic empowerment is desirable;
  • Knowledge in the field of women’s economic empowerment is desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency in English (other UN languages an asset);
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.

UN Women Internship Policy:

  • All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;
  • UN Women accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN Women during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan;
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN Women during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
  • The intern must provide proof of enrollment in a health insurance plan, proof of school enrollment, a scanned copy of his/her passport, two letters of recommendation, and application.
