Antecedentes

OCHA Regional Office for Caucasus and Central Asia (ROCCA) covers a region that is highly susceptible to natural and man-made disasters. OCHA ROCCA makes sure that Governments, civil society and international actors are well prepared, so that in the face of slow- or sudden-onset emergencies, the entire humanitarian community joins efforts to assist affected people.

Through its information management activities, ROCCA aims to support timely, better, and more informed programmatic and strategic decisions on humanitarian action in the Caucasus and Central Asia. A key priority is to improve information management preparedness in the region. The scope of information management activities include data collection, data processing and analysis, data mapping and visualization, capacity-building and data dissemination.

The internship is intended to:

  • promote a better understanding of international problems and give an insight into the work of the United Nations;
  • provide OCHA ROCCA with the able assistance of an outstanding young student specializing in a field related to their own work.

Deberes y responsabilidades

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The minimum duration is two months. This period can be extended up to a total period of six months.

Under the direct supervision of the OCHA ROCCA Information Management Officer, the intern will: 

  • assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing baseline datasets;
  • support in population of humanitarian data platform;
  • support in developing and designing visuals;
  • perform other duties, as required.

At the end of the internship, the intern will receive full feedback on the job performed, and upon successful completion of the assigned duties, the intern may request a letter of recommendation.

Education

  • Applicant must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

    2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);

    3. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

  • The university degree specified above should be in information management, information systems, computer science, or any other related field.

Language requirements

  • Fluency in oral and written Russian, and working knowledge of English, is required.

Experience

Applicants:

  • are not required to have professional work experience;

  • shall be computer literate in standard software applications;

  • have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

  • have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
